2 NJ police officers get probation in DWI cover-up

The Associated Press

MORRISTOWN, N.J. - Two New Jersey police officers have been put on probation and ordered to perform community service for covering up the drunken driving arrest of a fellow officer's relative. They also will lose their jobs.

In Superior Court Monday, Randolph Officers Shawn Boyhan and Stephen Kepler were admitted into a pretrial intervention program for first-time offenders.

Boyhan agreed to forfeit his job. Kepler, a 25-year veteran, will retire.

Boyhan admitted he arrested a motorist for suspected DWI on Aug. 21, but soon realized the person, who has not been publicly identified, was related to a fellow officer.

Prosecutors say he spoke with Kepler, the shift supervisor, and the suspect was released without charge. Other officers reported the incident to command staff.

1. I've heard it said
that cops only see three types of people in the world:

Other cops

Cops' families

Perpetrators
