An Armed Citizen With A Permit Stopped The Last VA College Shooting Rampage
I'm sure the gun nuts will pull this story out now as evidence that guns can protect schools. Hogwash. Until guns are gone from society, we won't be safe.

http://www.cnsnews.com/ViewNation.asp?Page=%5CNation%5Carchive%5C200209%5CNAT20020917a.html

After two armed southwest Virginia law students stopped a campus shooting rampage in January, a Second Amendment group at a northern Virginia law school decided it was time to change their own school's ban on guns.

"We are trying to build a detailed and persuasive brief that would include statistics on increases in safety, decreases in violent crime when you do have concealed carry permit holders in a jurisdiction," said Orest J. Jowyk, president of the Second Amendment group at George Mason University School of Law.

"I think the middle ground is to allow concealed handgun permit holders to carry just like they can anywhere else in Virginia," he said. "You provide extra safety to the student body that way."

Jowyk began researching his law school's gun policy following the January incident in which a disgruntled student at Appalachian Law School, Peter Odighizuwa, allegedly shot and killed the school's dean, a professor and a student on campus before being subdued by two armed students, Mikael Gross and Tracy Bridges.

1. A teacher with a gun stopped the Pearl massacre.
However, I still oppose guns on university campuses, especially when it's students packing. I was threatened by a student once...told me that he'd kill me because I kicked him out of class for aggressive, violent behavior. What if he'd have had a gun on that day?

Would it have made my class safer if all of my students had been allowed to bring guns to campus? I doubt it.

2. I wonder how many of the kids killed yesterday would have
wanted to carry a gun. My bet is that they would not have but they certainly may have wanted some controls in place so that the madman who killed them would not have been able to get his hands on a gun so easily.

4. The problem with this premise(your comment)
is that guns will not ever be gone from society, witness the shooting in Japan of all places today by a mobster. What would happen here is the rich will hire Blackwater security like they did in New Orleans while law abiding citizens had their guns confiscated. Meanwhile the criminals were out on the streets raising mayhem and the police were no where to be found or stretched to the max.

This is what it would look like in an emergency. This country makes a fortune selling arms to the rest of the world. We are a country almost bankrupt with the dollar falling in value like a rock, we have a climate crisis and oil shortage in our near future. In a perfect society I would agree with you but we don't have a perfect society and I prefer to depend on myself for security. The two times I was attacked there were no police to save me.

10. Exactly why I stayed away for so long after Katrina.
Even after we got power back on, I stayed away, because I figured the discussions would be repulsive...kinda like the ones today are.

7. Hmmmm
Somehow I suspect the sincerity of your assertions about the need for total firearms abolition.

Call me paranoid, just don't call me late for dinner.
