4. As an atheist
I find all this disgust for religion found here on DU very interesting.

7. The main disgust has to do with hypocrisy
Edited on Fri Oct-16-09 04:29 PM by FlyingSquirrel
Probably coupled with the need many religious people feel to "save" those who don't want to be saved.

There are, however, many religious people on DU who somehow manage to remain serene through it all. I say more power to 'em.

This cartoon in particular, I believe, is mainly directed toward the blindness that many religious people seem to have toward their own shortcomings and pride.

Jesus himself is reported to have said something like the following:

Mt: 7: 3: And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?

Mt: 7: 4: Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me pull out the mote out of thine eye; and, behold, a beam is in thine own eye?

Jesus had no patience for hypocrites and self-righteous people. Smart guy.

In reality, I think a lot of people here have no problem with him - just his followers.
