"But Canadians don't have freedom"
Edited on Thu Oct-15-09 07:20 PM by Sannum
I was waiting for a bus and a moran walked by saying this to a buddy of his.

Yes, those oppressed Canadians. Perhaps one day they will be liberated from such an oppressive regime. :eyes:

2. I live in Minnesota. There will be thousands of desperate Canadians crossing our border
seeking the freedoms we have, like freedom from affordable health care. Whatever shall we do?

3. Well, Vancouver is pretty oppressed these days
You can't have a sign or a t-shirt critical of the Olympics, or you risk arrest & fines. Ridiculous. Chicago got lucky.

6. Oh yes we did...

I am one of the local ones who are glad that we don't have to hear about 7 years of "no bid" contracts and tax hikes that will benefit Daley and Stroger. They already want to raise the price of a monthly transit pass to more than $100 while cutting service. Only several months after getting an infusion of cash that was supposed to last years...

I can't wait to vote in the Dem primaries here...

4. Yes, because we Americans have TONS of freedom out our asses!
Lose your job and see how free you are, especially when it comes to health insurance. Hell, KEEP your job and see how "free" you are. Corporations own our asses and we have one of the worst social safety nets among industrialized nations.

Freedom only applies to people who have fortunes. The rest of us are part of a sham that we have no choice in.

5. I have relatives in Canada
Went to visit them a few years back and boy was it oppressive there. We went fishing, drank beer, fished some more, toured a paper factory, drank some more beer, fished yet again, and nobody ever bothered us. Yep, that's quite oppressive and ant-freedom all right.

8. Aint that amazing? Shit from my on line canadian friends I think they have more freedom then the
US has. In fact theres a few dozen other countries that allow citizens more freedoms then the US, hell one of them even allows their people the right to go to a cafe and order some good home grown special blend lol. Just goes to show you how far some americans have been from their birth place, kind of reminds me of a chinese person was interviewed in the 70's after Nixons trip to China, when she was asked if she was upset that she didn't have any freedom, she replied, I have plenty of freedom. Having never been anywhere but China she had no concept of personal freedom. Of course the MSM rebutted what she said by stating the woman couldn't talk openly an freely lol.

10. "Freedom" is all relative!
Yes, Canadian have freedom! All European countries also have more freedom than we do right here in the good old USA, especially in the South!
I live in South Carolina, and believe it or not, even in this day and age, we are still not "free" to go shopping for anything but absolutely necessary food items on Sunday morning before 1:00 PM!
We cannot buy a bottle of beer on Sunday (even the low alcohol content type). . .which is fine with me since I don't drink beer. .but I think I should be able to buy a bottle of wine anytime I want to. . .NO! It's not part of freedom!
Also, in the town where I live, you cannot open a store or a restaurant that sells any type of alcohol within 1 mile of a church! You're going to tell me. . .no problem. . .go 1 1/4 mile!. . . . doesn't work. . .because this city is only about 3 miles long by 2 miles wide. . .and we have about 6 churches spread all over that!. . .so there really is no place that is over 1 mile from any church!

Yes, we have freedom, allright!. . .but only the freedom that they allow you to have! Like the freedome to worship. . .but not he freedome to purchase! The freedom to get sick, but not the freedom to access reasonable health care. The freedom to work. . .if you can find a job, and even then, your boss has the freedom to fire you at will. . .so what does that do to your freedom to work????

18. About 25 years ago, the performing group that I was part of
was hired to perform at a convention of Airstreamers in Duluth. So we go up there to find a parking lot full of silver Twinkie trailers on the waterfront.

Anyway, we do our thing, and then come the other performers for the evening, a group from Canada. We finish off with a joint number, and as the audience is applauding, an older man in a cowboyish outfit comes onto the stage, asks for quiet, and launches into an impassioned appeal for funds to restore the Statue of Liberty.

He goes on and on and on, while we're exhausted and eager to go down to the dressing rooms, shower, and have some food and drink. But the man goes on and on. Finally he says, "Since America is the only truly free and prosperous country in the world..."

And all the Canadians are looking at each other, mouthing things like, "Did he really say that?"

21. Of course they don't have freedom! No private corporation is allowed to pick their doctors for them!
Gay marriage! Gays in the military! Gay married couples in the military!

(Honestly, as a Canadian, that sort of comment makes me chuckle a bit, roll my eyes a little, and go on with my day. Some Americans think that we Canadians have an inferiority complex, but we aren't the ones who feel the need to be constantly shouting "we're #1!" all the time. We know that by almost every international measure of quality of life, we do as well or better than the US, and while we feel sympathy for those Americans who know it too, we don't feel any need to take the rabble too seriously.)

22. Every year I see thousands of Canadian refuges
fleeing to Arizona. For some reason they return to live under the tyranny of Canadianstan after Easter.

What is it about summers in Mesa that would make them want to stay:grr: ?
