11. I was looking for that option in a poll.
What people don't get is most "blue dogs" likely will be replaced with a Republican if they lose.
They won being a blue dog because a liberal democrat polls slightly behind Osama IN THAT DISTRICT.

So take your pick. 20 Blue Dogs or 20 Republicans because you have a snowball chance in hell of it being anyone else.

16. Exactly right
If you look at where the Blue Dogs are, those districts used to have a Republican representing them, and probably a moderate one, at that. Arch-conservatives got tired of supporting the GOP moderate, and Democratic voters, tired of losing sons and daughters to Iraq and Afghanistan voted for change.

It takes a long time to turn a district from middle-of-the-road to either quite conservative, or quite liberal, and even then, it usually depends on population shifts. Many people from NY and NJ have moved to the Carolinas, and taken their more progressive views with them, dragging the political center of a district leftward.

8. If progressives are forced out by people with money as Rahm Emanuel did to
Christine Cegelis when he went out of his way to recruit Tammy Duckworth to run against her in the primary, voters are left with only the choice of DLC, Blue Dog filth or a Republican.

12. you really are clueless when it comes to what a blue dog dem is
how many progressives do you think would get elected in the districts that the blue dogs come from, thses guys were picked because they are center to center right with a D after their name so they would be elected...

14. He couldn't do that if there were enough progressives to make it impossible.
We need a change in the electorate first.

First and foremost, we need more progressives.

But we also need more progressives who are willing to work for and support progressive candidates... not just go out and vote once the dust has settled.

17. Because there was no room for them in the GOP
And it's not because they need to be Dems to get elected. Look at Max Baucus, in the reddest of red states. Nope, it's just that they can't get on the GOP ticket, so they hold their noses and run as Dems.

19. They are actually Republicans in a Republican district that has
a Republican machine that won't let them into the clubhouse. They HAVE to run as Democrats to be able to 'play".

21. Or he may be a Democratic senator
from a Republican state who came by his office only because his predecessor had just been convicted of a felony -- e.g., Mark Begich -- who doesn't feel safe enough about his re-election to show his true Democratic nature.
