That was last year in Reynosa.

6. Actually dental care in Mexico is quite good and much cheaper.
Same with medical care. And a lot of Mexican doctors and dentists actually study here and go back to practice. If someone is unsure about having a doc who studied in Mexico, I bet with a little research, they could easily find a US trained one to go to.

My ex-bf from Mexico got beautiful veneers and I know he wasn't raking in the $$ working at Fat Tuesday. I don't know how much they cost him, but he didn't have insurance, and he paid cash each visit.

15. What you are afraid of the burro?
Here are several clues for you.

Many Mexican Doctors and Dentists get some or all their training in the US.

Those trained at the National University in Mexico are extremely well trained too.

UNAM.

The same goes for the ITAM, as well as Monterrey Politechnic and the University of Guadalajara.

IN fact, boy... you realize how many Mexican University Trained Doctors and Dentists practice in the US right now? You'd be surprised.

5. No. Are you close to Mexico though?
Because if I had to spend the money to fly there, well then, I'd also have to do some fun expensive stuff. I mean, if you're there anyway and all... :P

Dental crap sucks.

7. My girlfriend's family does it on every trip to Mexico.
The cost is low the quality is great and finding a US educated dentist is easy in nearly any large city.

8. I have family who have had it done.
My uncle and his wife, and my brother, too. They had no problems whatsoever. My brother even had LASIX surgery in Mexico. He's brave. I wouldn't go THAT far. :scared:

9. You can get a round trip ticket to China for about one grand.
A two grand dental job would cost about $400 in China. You now have about $600 left to stay about a week enjoying yourself. I would think it would be even cheaper in India. My friends in New England just go across the border to Canada.

10. Personally, no. But I know people who left California 20 some years ago
who now live in Belize and organize tours for people interested in retiring there. They recommend
coming to Belize for dental services. Here is the website:

http://www.offshoredental.com/

and here is Bill and Claire Gray's website: http://www.belizeretire.com/

Good luck!

17. Living within 45 miles or so of the Mexican border.....
I know of quite a few people who go to Nogales for dental work. They have always been very pleased with the quality of dental care they have received there. Some go for cleanings, some for bridge type work, some for implants. It runs the gamut of what their dentists here in the US offer and what the dentists in Nogales offer. I have never heard of anything negative toward any of the dentists in Nogales.

then had to have extensive repairs here at home later on. Your mileage may vary, but caution is indicated. Not that there aren't greedy, incompetent dentists here. Why not just have it pulled. You don't really need all those wisdom teeth.

I had mine done down in Nogales, Mexico & he did a great job. A friend of mine who was born down there took me to her dentist that she has used for years. I know of others who have went there & liked the work they had done to.

22. Dental Bernal in Los Algodones
Hi XemaSab,

I've been to Los Algodones (near Yuma, Arizona) four times. In all, I've had five extractions, one sinus boost, one root canal, 18 crowns, and six implants/crowns. Yeah, I'm old, smoked for 31 years, drank a six-pack of Coca-Cola every day. Stop cringing.

At one point, I needed the root canal, post and buildup, and crown. To have the work done in Seattle would have been $2,400. I had it done at Dental Bernal for $1,200 and that included airfare from Seattle to Las Vegas, car and hotel for a week. (I flew into Las Vegas because the connecting flight from Phoenix to Yuma is the same price as flying from Seattle into Phoenix, San Diego, Ontario, or Las Vegas. Also, renting a car through Priceline at Phoenix, San Diego, Ontario, or Las Vegas is one-third to half the cost of renting a car in Yuma.)

If you want to read the 30-page journal from my first trip in October 2006, email me at my yahoo.com address (SuzanneFromSeattle@).

In four trips, I've learned a lot so I have lots of answers. And lots of opinions.

Someone further up in this thread mentioned Dentists of Algodones; Bill Bernard sets appointments for many of the 350+ dentists in Los Algodones. If you want to contact Bill's appointment setter on the Algodones side of the border, email Juan Macias -- he has a hotmail.com address (jojuanmac@). I can also give you Juan's U.S. mobile number. Juan grew up in the states so his English is perfect.

I hope it's OK to post a link to another forum (sport fishing) where one of the guys had a great experience at Dental Bernal:
http://www.bloodydecks.com/forums/nonsense-anything-boards/156142-my-dental-expierience-mexico-los-algodones-mucho-pics.html
I asked Mike why he didn't just drive over the border from San Diego to Tijuana -- apparently, not many San Diegoans visit Tijuana any more due to the increasing crime rate.

And, yes, I have a Google Alert set for "dental work in Mexico" and that's how I found you. It makes me so sad when people think they can't afford good dental work. Especially when they're Liberal Democrats.

SuzanneFromSeattle

P.S. Democratic Underground? You should have been here last week: Dr. Richard Dawkins spoke before the largest crowd (4,500) he's ever had in North America.
