Former House speaker wins Fla Senate seat
The Associated Press

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Former Florida House Speaker John Thrasher has defeated three write-in candidates in a special election for the Senate District 8 seat vacated by the death of the Sen. Jim King.

Unofficial results Tuesday evening showed Thrasher with about 89 percent of the vote. As winner of last month's Republican primary, Thrasher's name was the only one on Tuesday's ballot, because the names of the write-in candidates did not appear. No Democrat entered the race.

The number of votes for each write-in candidate had not been tabulated Tuesday.

King died in July from pancreatic cancer.
