Limbaugh could be a partial owner of the Rams

In 2003, Rush Limbaugh had a brief dalliance with the sport he loves, spending a month as the "voice of the fan" on ESPN's pregame show before resigning after a delayed reaction to comments made regarding Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb triggered a firestorm.

Since then, the mega-rich Rush's name has bubbled up from time to time as a potential owner of all or part of an NFL team.

And it could be coming to fruition.

Charley Casserly of CBS reports that, of the three groups that submitted bids to buy the St. Louis Rams, one group includes Dave Checketts and Limbaugh.

The team I idolized as a child in Southern Cal. The idea of Lush Rimbaugh getting his sticky hands on them is revolting.

1. Nooooooooo! Please NO!
I don't even watch football, but I live in St. Louis so that's too close for comfort for me.

4. Should be ample supply of painkillers & racism
1. Rush was fired as NFL commentator when he said Donovan McNabb didn't have the mental ability to be a QB (a few years ago).

2. There should be no players on any Rush team complaining of "pain."

3. The Rams would be perfect for him- they suck.

8. Not exactly on #1...
I saw his commentary when it was made. He just questioned why Donovan was so over-hyped. And he is! He sucks, but every commentator loves him. Kind of like Tony Romo for whatever reason. The amount of accolades those two receive is a mystery.

9. Actually, it was a different racist comment from Rush
He said that the media had "social concern" and wanted McNabb to do well just because he's black:

"Sorry to say this, I don't think he's been that good from the get-go," Limbaugh said. "I think what we've had here is a little social concern in the NFL. The media has been very desirous that a black quarterback do well."

10. I have never understood why Donovan McNabb or Michael Vick
were given so much hype. The motives to me remain unclear. Not saying he was correct, but it sure is strange.

11. Notwithstanding "hype"
There are a lot of black QBs in the NFL, and his comment showed how out of touch and old-school bigoted he was. I guess he forgot that Doug Williams won the Super Bowl, too.

On why McNabb and Vick got the praise they did. Especially considering McNabb is made of glass. He's like a precious moments figurine out on the field.

Vick was amazing in college, but was an incredible disappointment in the pros.

22. You can say the same for a lot of white QBs
Eli Manning is overhyped. Ryan Leaf was arguably the most overhyped QB ever. Matt Leinart... What Rush did, as is his M.O., is to say McNabb was overhyped BECAUSE he is BLACK, which is bullshit. Rush is just a racist.

The young QB who recently won a superbowl and is incredibly efficient every time he comes out?

When's the last time you heard anything about Leaf or Leinhart?

Romo is overhyped.

Edited for grammar

43. That's because we made Romo throw stupid throws.
Dallas' #1 ranked rushing offense? Stopped 'em - didn't matter if Jones was out. They had Barber and Choice. 74 friggin' yards.

Denver is for real. We'll prove it by putting the Tootsies to sleep - I'll even wager someone who's willing. :)

16. As an Eagles fan who has bitched about Donovan McNabb for 10 years
McNabb is a good quarterback, he is not a great quarterback. That being said, Donovan majored in communications in college and from all reports he went to class and actually studied. McNabb is over hyped because he is a good spokesperson and the team has been relatively successful though they have not won a superbowl over the past 10 years.

McNabb's over hype has more to do with the fact McNabb spent his time the four years he was in college learning how to present himself and sell himself.

17. It isn't racist if it's true
McNabb had ONE very good season and other than that has been pretty average as quarterbacks go. He doesn't even have a 60% career passing percentage, which should be the baseline for any decent quarterback in the league today.

Why the NFL owners would want that shit stain in their exclusive club is beyond me. I predict nothing but pain and misery for the league if Limbaugh is allowed to be an owner of an NFL franchise.

45. I Could Just See The Players Meeting Now...
Imagine being black and your boss is Rushbo. Rushbo comes down at half time to address the team and tells them they need to get rid of that "plantation mentality". Instead of the Hometown discount, players will want combat pay to have to put up with his abuse and the embarassment of having to work for the slum lord.

On a sidenote...when I found out about this, I contacted a friend in St. Louis who is a mediatype. He said there's already a buzz to protest any possible sale or if its approved to lead a boycott against the team. Rushbo may find St. Louis isn't as happy to have him as he thinks they do.
