Let's do a property assessment of each and every candidate
It will be fun. Let's start with Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama. Then we'll hit the second tier candidates like Richardson and Biden. Also, it might be fun to see how much money these candidates wasted on fancy shoes and expensive dining experiences.

While we're at it, let's document each and every item we've bought in the last year and figure out how many starving children in Third World countries we ripped off because we wasted our money on that new Dixie Chicks CD, rather than cutting a check to UNICEF. I'll start. In my fridge is a hunk of Stilton cheese I spent $9 on, rather than buying some cheap Kraft orange cheese that does not go nearly as well with my $8 six pack of microbrew porter. That's $17 of sheer unbridled excess. I'm such a bastard.

Bottom line. Rich people run for president. Don't like it? Tough, welcome to Corporate America. No matter who you support in the '08 election, the odds that that person is wealthy and spends money on items you consider excessive is somewhere in the neighborhood of 100%. Find an exception to that and I'll show you a primary loser who'll drop out by South Carolina.

1. John Edwards house is obscene.
Here is the 'bottom line': His house is absolutely, totally obscene.

3. Your last paragraph implies
that only the rich need apply to run for office, because a poor person doesn't have a chance. Is this what you mean? Clarification, please.

4. Peter Gabriel..... "Big Time".
I'm on my way, I'm making it
I've giot to make it show, yeah
so much larger than life
I'M going to watch it growing

the place where I come from is a small town
they think so small
they use small words
-but not me
I'm smarter than that
I worked it out
I've been stretching my mouth
to let those big words come right out

I've had enough, I'm getting out
to the city, the big big city
I'll be a big noise with all the big boys
there's so much stuff I will own
and I will pray to a big god
as I kneel in the big church

big time
I'm on my way-I'm making it
big time big time
I've got to make it show yeah
big time big time
so much larger than life
big time
I'm going to watch it growing
big time

my parties all have big names
and I greet them with the widest smile
tell them how my life is one big adventure^
and always they're amazed
when I show them round my house, to my bed
I had it made like a mountain range
with a snow-white pillow for my big fat head
and my heaven will be a big heaven
and I will walk through the front door

big time
I'm on my way-I'm making it
big time big time
I've got to make it show-yeah
big time big time
so much larger than life
I'm going to watch it growing
big time big time
my car is getting bigger
big time
my house is getting bigger
big time
my eyes are getting bigger
big time
and my mouth
big time
my belly is getting bigger
big time
and my bank account
big time
look at my circumstance
big time
and the bulge in my big big big big big big big

even Democratic Presidents of last hundred years could hardly be called middle-class when they ran. ( now candidates are another matter - but they never seem to win OUR nomination)
