Boehner: "I'm still trying to find the first American who's in favor of the public option"

http://firstread.msnbc.msn.com/archive/2009/10/01/2086635.aspx

House Minority Leader John Boehner went off on a whole array of issues today, here are some of the highlights:

...

PUBLIC OPTION: "I'm still trying to find the first American who's in favor of the public option other than a member of Congress or the Administration."

"This is about as unpopular as a garlic milkshake."

Uninsured 22-Year-Old Boehner Constituent Dies From Swine Flu

A 22-year-old woman from Oxford, Ohio, died from swine flu on Wednesday. Kimberly Young graduated from Miami University in December and continued to live in Oxford, Ohio, within Minority Leader John Boehner’s congressional distrct. Reports now indicate that after initially getting sick, Young put off treatment because she was uninsured:

Young became ill about two weeks ago, but didn’t seek care initially because she didn’t have health insurance and was worried about the cost, according to Brent Mowery, her friend and former roommate. <…>

On Tuesday, Sept. 22, Young’s condition suddenly worsened and her roommate drove her to McCullough Hyde Memorial Hospital in Oxford, where she was flown in critical condition to University Hospital in Cincinnati.

“That’s the most tragic part about it. If she had insurance, she would have gone to the doctor,” Mowery said.

And I know for a fact that both she and her husband have called his office repeatedly saying they were for the public option. Guess that message did not get to him? He is such a jerk.

20. Get your sister to write to the media or a letter to one of the newspapers
Have her quote what he said, then relay what she and her husband said to his office.

Who knows... Maybe it will compel others to say they let him know that he has heard from them wanting the public option too.

Prolly not. But how insensitive is that comment in a country where two-thirds of the population, many of them dying because they can't afford to go to a doctor, are in favor of a public option (if not single payer). How offensive is that?

He was nifty enough with his guide-dog and white stick, but I don't think Boehner would be sharp enough to picks up the clues the dog would be giving him. If only he had ONE eye in that place, he'd be king.

I mean really - walk in to any business in America that employs a dozen or so people and chances are more than half of them are FOR a public option. This too tan sot is busy bowing to his corporate masters and looking completely out of touch with America. His brand of patriotism went out with celluloid collars and spats.

41. This needs to be made into an ad...
...we need the video clip of Boehner saying "I'm still trying to find the first American who's in favor of the public option", and then a voiceover: "Oh, really?" Then it goes to a chart showing % support for the public option, and then to real people saying "I support a public option", several people and then fade out...

Since polls show that a majority of the population supports a public option, having an ad like this out there would tend to remind people who is listening to them, vs. who is not.

He needs to stop spending so much time with artificial persons and more time with real people.

Oh, Mr. Boehner, by the way -- I am in favor of a public option. I would be in favor of a single payor system that would put those private health insurance rackets out of business if it were offered.

probably excludes anybody who would favor a public option for health insurance, so in his mind, the statement is automatically true.

51. I have an "I've never met...." story, too.
And I mix with all sorts of people, unlike Mr. Boehner, who I'm betting stays securely inside his little right-wing bubble. I work in a company with a lot of international employees, interns, and guests who come to seminars, etc. I meet people from all over the world on a regular basis. I always make it a point to ask any Europeans I meet about their healthcare if there's an appropriate opening in the conversation. Can you guess how many of them I've met who hate their health care system? Zilch. Not a one. In fact, when I bring up the health care issue, the main reaction I get from them is pity (as in "too bad you have such a sucky health care system".) The second most popular reaction is amusement and disbelief that we have non-rich, non-elite citizens, who actually fight against universal health care.

52. Here's how it works...
Edited on Fri Oct-02-09 10:06 AM by Javaman
this scumbag gets thousands of letters each week.

More than likely 70% of them want the public option. That would mean repukes in his district also want it.

But then in steps his staff members.

They filter through the pile and only pull out the right wing nuts who worship the ground bonejob walks on.

of those, they discount the radical wingnuts who talk about rapture, killing this person or that, marching in the recent klan rally, etc. And whittle it down to about 5 letters that 1) have a minimum amount of spelling and grammatical errors, 2) have a reasonable understanding of sentence structure and 3) appear to have a grasp of reality. (they don't see imaginary people, well at least on a daily basis), then these letters are forwarded for bonejob to read.

Thus him proclaiming,"I'm still trying to find the first American who's in favor of the public option".

See?
