WATCH: Stewart Destroys Dems For Not Getting Public Option Passed
Edited on Thu Oct-01-09 08:20 AM by democracy1st
Jon Stewart went off on Senate Democrats last night for failing to get their health care reform plan past the Senate Finance Committee despite having a super majority. The Democrats had the numbers on the committee, but several members of their party voted against the amendments despite 65% national approval for the plan. Stewart argued that the "Democrats couldn't get laid in a house soul purpose is to have consequence and disease-free sex with legislators on finance committees."

1. Jesus.
It doesn't get much more clear than that.

It's now just about impossible to attribute these failures to incompetence.

2. Your right.
So how do we stop the money flow? We can't rely on honest people anymore.

13. No idea. Money is power.
"They" got it, we don't.

We could wage a skillful campaign that slowly bleeds them of resources, but before they lose any real measure of power they'd probably use whatever they had left to steal their way back to where they started.

I wonder if greed can yet save the system. Maybe the powerful will become so short-sighted that they sacrifice control for short-term personal gain, and cease working together effectively. Not likely, I guess.

Hope there are better alternatives.

18. Yes you can.
You can find the "honest" people in the Democratic Wing of the Democratic Party....The Progressive Caucus.
These Democrats still work for YOU.
http://www.pdamerica.org/

Unfortunately, NONE of them were given positions of authority in the Obama Administration.

Send donations DIRECTLY to these Democrats.
If you work for a living, NEVER send donations to the DCCC, DSCC, or the DNC.
They will use your money against you by replacing REAL Democrats with Blue Dogs.

"There are forces within the Democratic Party who want us to sound like kinder, gentler Republicans. I want us to compete for that great mass of voters that want a party that will stand up for working Americans, family farmers, and people who haven't felt the benefits of the economic upturn."---Paul Wellstone

19. But you can't depend on them always being honest or staying honest.
All the money flowing creates temptations. We need to stop the money.

5. You know, I think we've been wrong about something all along.
Somehow, we've been thinking that our Dems are fundamentally smarter than the Republicans. That they possess a moral compass that still functions occasionally. That they can see through bullshit to identify essential elements and cut out all the rest.

Nah. Our Dems have the same stupidity gene the Republicans have. They're all utterly worthless.

If it were only that. They are *owned* by corporate interests. That is the real problem.

9. It's our own fault
Edited on Thu Oct-01-09 09:37 AM by Yuugal
The repukes bided their time and slowly pulled their party to the right by pushing the "moderates" out. We need to do the same thing on our side and support the good people like Weiner,Feingold, et al while pushing every moderate out. Never miss a primary people. It's the only time we actually get a say in what is going on. If our guy loses in the primary then just bail on the general election because we are only hurting ourselves when we pick just any old Dem and figure they will be better because they have a magic D in front of their name. So from now on, whenever my party runs one of these corporate turds, I'm either not voting or voting with the other side. Sure, we will lose some seats, but as we've seen it really doesn't matter how many seats we get if most of them are gonna take a dive in every fight.

12. What is a moderate?
The only time I ever hear the word is when we aren't getting something done and then it is always used thusly: The moderates ended up voting with the repukes and so we couldn't pass (insert whatever core dem value they are betraying).

Was giving over a trillion for corporate welfare moderate?
Is expanding Bush's wars moderate?
Is mindlessly cheerleading the economy as unemployment gets worse and manufacturing dies off completely moderate?
Is voting no on the public option the same day you approve 50 million for abstinence-only ed in the same body moderate?

I'm all for any law-abiding citizen owning a gun if they feel the need to.
I'm not for taxpayer funded abortions.
I'm against affirmative action.

Am I now a moderate even though I want to socialize the banks, health care and housing?

The word moderate is just a cover for these corporate bought and paid for crooks to screw us over and rob the treasury every chance they get.

14. thats the thing there is really no definition of "Moderate"
so a Moderate is really someone who believes in what you perceive to be Moderate.

Michael Moore 9/29 Message to Obama & Blue Dogs ...

"...And you probably turn around and you wonder who's got your back, because you seem to be out there all alone. The reason for that, with all due respect, is that you started with a compromise. Anybody who's bought a car, anybody who's bought or sold their house or negotiated anything, knows you don't start with your final position, you don't start with a compromise. You start with everything that you want. Everything that you believe in.

And in 2003, when you decided to run for the Senate, you said you were in favor of a single-payer health care system. And I believe in your heart you still believe that. But you started in a place where you had no wiggle room, nothing was left, and, it was a position that did not energize the base. Did not, you're not going to get millions of people out there going 'Yes, give us the public option where the private companies still get to call the shots.' How do you get people enthused about that? That's why you're out there and alone on this. You don't need to be alone..."

16. He was great and the Stephen Colbert gave the knock out punch on it last night, and requests that
everyone send Baucus their medical bills! He also showed how Baucus collected over $3 million for the health insurance industry. :)

If I had medical bills I'd send copies directly to Baucus, and recommend if the mood hits any of you that do, go ahead a send them in!

(I have no medical bills because I can't afford to see a doctor to accumulate bills)

I love watching Jon but the posts on here about him "ripping someone a new one" or "destroying people" are a joke. His job ain't exactly hard when all he has to do is look into the camera and the audience rips up in belly-busting laughter. Not dissing him, just sayin.
