Hi, omega--wow, you really have an incredibly popular Michael Moore thread going, hundreds of votes. This thread here seems to be a continuation of the old "Karl Rove is getting us to think about trivia, and hiding what they are doing" theme. I don't really agree, for a few reasons.

First, if you remember, one of the things the "internet activists" on DU were "warning" about, was the case of the Republican Mark Foley, a sexual predator stalking teenage pages in the House of Representatives, and the whole thing being covered up by that bastard Dennis Hastert, then Speaker of the House. People on DU--clueless!--actually posted threads to ignore this "trivia," and only pay attention to Iraq endlessly. They were totally wrong; people were so shocked that Republicans would protect someone harassing children, they couldn't stand it, and it was one of the reasons why they started to lose elections; it was revulsion. I hope to God, for example, that you are not implying that Roman Polanski's rape of a teenage girl, is "trivial"--that bastard should have been put in prison 30 years ago.

Also, sometimes it is not "them" doing it to us. Every woman on DU and everywhere else knows how bigoted "the liberal males" are, with no one else's assistance needed. The vulgar hate, the dismissive trivializing and ignoring of issues, the name-calling, the refusal to face their own bigotry--these things all go on all the time.

I agree with your general premise that no one should believe the media ever, as they are always lying on behalf of their corporate structural interests, but with these few points, too.

Like I said -and Mike Moore's wonderful film "Capitalism" had it in there too:

The Romans used the chariot races to distract folks. The 'red' fans would kill the 'blue' fans. Then hotter entertainment was needed to keep the Roman's attention, and fights to the death and beast maulings came along.

All the while, a Republic became a dictatorship, and of course declined due to corruption.
