1. I'm curious about that "tens of thousands" meme
It seems to have become the officially accepted turn-out size in the entire English-language global MSM.

You sort of wonder if they'd all decided on that in advance, in order to minimize the D.C. rally's impact.

6. If that ever really happened, it was staged, and I think I've figured out how

(I realize you were being sarcastic, but stay with me here):

As Emmet Grogan's RINGOLEVIO pointed out, a lot of small-time crooks noticed that, if you lived in the Haight, and had long hair and maybe a flowered shirt and love beads, people left you alone and asked no questons. So they grew their hair and got "freaky" looking, then preyed on the real hippies(this type of person may have been the origin of the "twisted peace-sign killer" character in the original DIRTY HARRY, btw).

What I think happened was this:

At some point, these scumbags got busted for something serious(along with various pusher types)and then Nixon and Hoover realized that they could use these guys. So they told them "OK, you pricks, I'll give you two choices. You can serve out your full sentence in the cell with Big Tiny, who's lonely and thinks you're the cutest lil' dumplin' he ever did see. Or, you can do us a favor". So they sent these guys out to the airports when the troop planes landed in full freak gear and got THEM to do the spitting.

That would explain how the "demonstrators" happened to know when the troop planes were arriving(actual hippie peaceniks, not having this info, would have had to spend days and maybe weeks hanging out at airports hoping a troop plane might happen to arrive) and were always ready and allowed right onto the tarmac to meet and abuse our brave veterans.

Since Nixon never gave a shit about the guys in 'Nam, having lied about his intent to keep the war going for four years because telling that lie was the only way he could get elected, it seems perfectly plausible that he and ol Jenny Edgar could arrange criminal spit squads to hassle the vets and drive up his own poll ratings by pissing off "Middle America".

I can't prove this yet, I think this is likely to have been how it went down.

17. My husband always said
that the person at the planning sessions for the anti-war rally who advocated violence was inevitably an FBI agent. I recall thinking the same thing when there was only one outspoken fellow at anti-war meetings who kept saying we needed to burn down the university--he wore long hair, but was too neat and never took off his sunglasses.....I'd never go to a protest where he said there would be violence, because I knew that would be counter-productive.

3. Exactly right
tens of thousands can mean any number, but it would be more accurate to say hundreds of thousands and a half million would be closer to the mark,

but the government is not releasing any of the aerial shots(restricted airspace) which would pretty much silence that argument.

Just arrived back home safe and sound. I was thinking that the helicopter(s) that flew overhead all day long probably had some great photos of the crowd...

16. True to some extent -- but look at all the different outlets that are publishing
that same info, around the country and the world. Makes it hard for anyone to miss.
