Repair
Feeling like the world is in need of repair
The chassis is bent and broken
Other parts showing signs of wear

Reserve tank has been sucked quite dry
Without another pump anywhere in sight
Dangerous wastelands of road lay ahead
Still a ways in the distance, but not too far
To see that it’s a dead end street
Rife with mystery and dread

Blindly, but continuously rolling
Eternity patrolling
Putter and ponder we onward
Putting pathetic patches on parts
To keep the engine going

Who is the driver?
Where does the journey lead?
Are we on this trip together?
Or six billion single operators
Pushing overheated wrecks
For just that last burst of speed

Like a race for all our lives
But are we here just for the crashes?
Or at the finish is there really a prize?
Will it be trophy and a kiss from someone pretty?
Or a whole car full of despair
My money is on the latter
If we don’t get this machine some repair
-S

2. Lol Thanks. Does that poem sound like I'm going to have a great day?
Just kidding. Maybe I will now that I just got that depressing muck out of me.

6. As a matter of fact it does to me
and I'm not kidding :hi:

You know Shadow I miss your posts back when you were driving a cab and keeping us up to speed on the kids going and coming to and from the war zone. I say kids not out of disrespect but out of concern for their well being in such a hostile situation, both there and here then.

7. Couldn't keep doing it madokie. Having too many nightmares that weren't mine.
Hard to go to work when your heart has to break every night. I have nothing but respect for people that can work among the misery of things like an ER or EMTs, and of course soldiers. I wish I was strong enough to keep telling their stories, and I may still compile my work someday, but I'm no good as an independent journalist anymore until I can learn to shield myself from my own empathy again.

5. " 'Tis done, but yesterday, a king,
And bound with kings to strive.
But now, thou art a nameless thing,
so abject, yet alive..."

11. I have a big fat book of his oevre somewhere, but
where I first heard that particular poem was a version set to music by the mid-20th century composer, Arnold Schoenberg. Definitely worth checking out if you sometimes like things that "go against the grain."

Glad to see the fruits of your creativity.

12. I'm sure you can find most of Byrons stuff on the net by now.

I'm chewing through a Whitman website now. Probably some Blake and Yeats for me after that. Haven't read "The Second Coming" in a while. My personal favorite I think.

ETA-Thank you for the compliment.

14. Thanks Midnight. Wish I could corral my own lol.
That's the weird thing about poets. Some of us can interpret the universe, but finding a matching pair of socks is murder.

16. You are in good company, I have heard that said about some of our best and brightest.
If you can get your hands on a movie called IQ, it depicts Einstein and his fellow scientist in similiar fashion.
