6. He wouldn't want to shake his "man of the people" thang.
Funniest thing...I know of someone who used to see his daughter going on political rants at Hyde Park in London. Her rich-girl-daughter-of a dictator hypocracy was delightful.

7. Well, now you know how much of an asshole Bush really was.
We should bomb Lybia again just for the hell of it - in case they snuck a few more terrorist attacks past us over the years.
This bastard has been killing our people since the '70's and gets to visit NYC.....

9. Prove it.
Other than a little spat with Reagan in the 80s, what did Khadaffi ever actually DO?

First clue - in the 60s he nationalized US oil company property and kicked the US military out of the country. THAT is the entire reason he was a 'bad guy' in the first place.

Though personally religious, he never let the Islamic fundamentalists get a foothold in his country. You might note, in all the Al Queda attacks over the years we've seen representative from nearly all Arab and Muslim nations - but I don't recall any Libyan AQ members.

"Libyan terrorism" is a construct of the Reagan government, when it went searching for an enemy for their two-minute hates.

12. Nonsense. Lybia under Khadaffy has a long and continuing record of
sponsoring terrorism in Europe and elsewhere. I am sorry yu are so blind to the truth. I hated Reagans regime and the GOP now, but I urge you to read a little and not blindly accept propaganda just because it's anti US.

18. It was the US right that did the propagandizing.
Look at the link in my post, above.

Nearly all the 'terrorism' attributed to Khadaffi can be easily pointed at others, particularly when it comes to the US. He tweaked our noses during the 70s and 80s by being friendly with 'freedom fighters' (and as you know, one man's terrorist is another man's freedom fighter) such as the IRA and the PLO, and Abu Nidal operated from Libya, but there is no evidence that Libya or Khadaffi sponsored any of them. The nightclub bombing in Germany (which prompted the US bombing of Khadaffi's home, killing a 5 year old girl) was almost undoubtedly committed by Iranian agents, and there were much stronger Iranian/Syrian ties to Lockerbie than to Libya.

All because he committed the unforgivable sin of nationalizing US and British oil companies in 1969.

Perhaps it is you who needs to read up a little.

8. The stock footage of him, when he was the "Libyan Strongman"
Edited on Wed Sep-23-09 10:31 AM by The_Casual_Observer
had him driving a farm tractor around a field. That was when he was feared like Saddam.

Later on, he traded in some old waterheaters and plumbing on a new reputation as a nuke-free buddy of the freedom loving american people.

13. Cheese and rice!
Is this idiot still talking!? I left after he started to get breakfast from Jack in the Box, came back, watched a little until I felt my head begin to spin from his babbling and muted the TV and turned my attention to work. Now, over an hour later, I look up and HE'S STILL TALKING! Give it a rest, khaddafy!

I've heard tons of simultaneous translations in my day. These two who were doing it for him sounded as if they couldn't even follow him.

17. Not necessarily kookier
Many DUers strongly object to the idea of our country being a "super power" - yet I don't see a mass migration into, say, Mexico. I am sure that many would disapprove of the veto power that some members on the U.N. have. And, perhaps, like the Bolton, would like to eliminate this institution all together.
