How to get rich by peddling crap
Edited on Sun Sep-20-09 12:05 PM by Cyrano
Agree with me or not, but I believe most of the wingnuts on hate radio, “Faux News,” as well as those who write propaganda-filled op-ed columns, do what they do because of unbridled greed and the immense amount of money they are paid.

I'm talking about people who say what they say because it’s a damned good living. Do you really believe that Glenn Beck believes one syllable that comes out of his mouth? Or O’Reilly? Or Coulter? Or Malkin? Or George Will, Charles Krathammer, William Krystal, or any of the other miserable specimens of so-called humans who spew a never ending supply of shit across the landscape?

Yes, there are a few exceptions like Hannity who has to be one of the stupidest people who ever lived. And Limbaugh, whose drug addled brain can no longer distinguish between facts, reality and the dump trucks that deliver his daily sacks of gold.

But they’ve all learned that the road to riches is paved with lies and the lack of a conscience.

Those who sell their bodies to survive are called whores. So what do we call those who sell their souls in return for riches? Is there any doubt who the real whores are?

1. They're parasites
Beck, O'Reilly, Malkin, Limbaugh, Hannity and the rest do nothing, make nothing, invent nothing, elevate nothing, and improve nothing. They're lumps. With the exception of a very few, like the late William F. Buckley, they don't even have a solid, well-thought out conservative ideology, however wrong it might be. They're the worst kinds of entertainers, ones who appeal to the most vile emotions in the viewer of hatred and fear. I can't conceive of someone taking pride in doing this kind of work. It leaves nothing of value behind when they're gone. I guess some people will do anything for money, but I could never see myself doing this for a living.

5. Sorry, but I take exception to the existence of William F. Buckley.
He may very well be "the father" of modern conservatism, but in far too much of what I've read about this man, he was a (subtle) racist -- whatever the hell that is --, an anti-semite, and he thought that McCarthyism was okay.

Being well-educated and having a vocabulary unmatched by virtually anyone else on the planet in no way makes you a decent human being.

For all of his tremendous vocabulary and impressive education, being a racist, an anti-semite and pro McCarthyism makes the man a prick.

8. I never wrote that Buckley was a great guy
In fact, I stated that he was wrong. He just seemed to me to have a more logical and internally consistent approach to his way of thinking than the average conservative pundit of today. He was someone with whom a liberal could argue without the conversation descending into a shouting or name-calling match the way things seem to be now. I didn't like him. Besides being a racist and anti-semite as you mention, I believe he also denied the genocide that Native Americans suffered during the European settlement of the New World.

control.. an elitist religious Cargo Cult is becoming more obvious, based on believing that Wealth is the measure of Gods "Favor" of a man/corporation, therefore it is a sin against god to tax a Rich Man or Corporation. by default the poor are being punished by god, and it is a sin to help the poor, they have a base of underclass supporters duped into believing they will get favor supporting the elite rich who are actually screwing them... this was common belief in even the Roman Empire.. Jesus was really upsetting the Apple Cart.

it explains all the mysteries of the GOP... and the NeoCons in particular

3. Diligent well-paid soldiers in Grover Norquist's war on Good Government
Grover wants to get people to dislike government so much that they'll defund it and shrink it to the size that it can be drowned in the bathtub and public wealth can go to those who deserve it most-- like him and his friends.

http://www.thenation.com/doc/20010514/dreyfuss

And they're carrying out the prescriptions from long ago, detailed in the Powell Memorandum, to protect private profits from the enemies of "free enterprise."

http://www.reclaimdemocracy.org/corporate_accountability/powell_memo_lewis.html

The campaign to move our national dialogue to the Right has been going on for decades. Eric Alterman documents the many techniques they've been using in his book: www.whatliberalmedia.com

The right wing has become more and more reckless in stirring up fear and hatred in the public just to protect private profits. Paying amoral professional PR firms to get vulnerable populations in "genuine grass roots groups" to storm town halls shouting down any attempts at reform.

That's why I hope Democrats will decide to stand firm on making Medicare for All who want it as our public option and not give in to the professional bullying to protect private profits.

4. Limbaugh isn't stupid, he knows what works.
All he does is find a news story about something bad happening and blame it on the liberals. That's his job. He never cared about facts.

Limbaugh wants Ronnie Reagan on Mt. Rushmore cause Reagan showed him how to become a millionaire. Reagan proved that you could just make things up and a large percentage of the people will buy into it. And Reagan got rid of the Fairness Doctrine which opened the door for B.S. talk radio.

Anyone can do this although the competition is now fierce, hence the Glen Beck syndrome. These people are shock jocks. They have to keep trying to outdo the competition.

Hopefully people will get tired of it and I think it is trending that way.

When Hendrix set his guitar afire, that was cool because we had never seen anything like that. When that devolved into "The Who" being expected to smash everything on stage it became stupid and banal.

6. I've always thought that for most of them, it's an act.
Even the drug addict IMHO doesn't believe most of what he spews. A peek at this was when he went on the air complaining about being tired of "carrying water" for the GOP. Don't get me wrong, most of them don't care for "liburals" and don't want taxes raised on their bloated salaries. And they know the more outrageous the spiel the more attention they'll get and that means ratings and donations from RW organizations and mega-corporations. To live like this it's handy not to have a conscience and have a tremendous ability to rationalize.

7. Randi Rhodes has stated for years that the real money is on the wingnut
side of the spectrum.

She won't name names, (does she really have to???), but she has repeatedly said that many of those who spout right wing crap are doing it for the bucks. They no more believe in what they're saying than they believe in the tooth fairy.

She has also stated that all she'd have had to do to be far more successful (in the past) was to spew right wing crap. She just couldn't bring herself to do it.

There are many who dislike her because of her style, aggressiveness and occasional shrieking. But how can anyone not respect her for having not sold out?

9. You know, a lot of people bash the Freepers, but
at least, if they really and truly believe the crap, it's sort of understandable.

But the Limbaughs, Coulters, Malkins, O'Reillys of the world....if they really don't believe the crap they're spewing, then they are the Most Evil of the Evil. They don't even deserve to be called whores, and to call them whores is an insult to real whores everywhere.
