Note to freepers who constantly say government cannot do anything right:
STOP ELECTING PEOPLE WHO SAY THAT, BECAUSE THEY ARE THE ONES - ONCE ELECTED - WHO HELP PROVE GOVERNMENT CAN'T WORK BECAUSE THEY'RE EITHER STUPID OR DISINGENUOUS WITH AN ULTERIOR MOTIVE TO BREAK THINGS DOWN, THAT'S WHY!!!

In short, they will work against you and use your own 'character weakness' against you.

That surely isn't too simple a concept to understand?!?!!!

1. Exactly
You can't put Sarah Brady in charge of the NRA.

You can't put Pam Anderson in charge of Hormel.

You can't put David Duke in chart of the NAACP.

You can't put Mel Gibson in charge of the ADL.

And you sure as hell can't put a contemporary Republican in charge of government.

We're a long way from Eisenhower, Goldwater, and Nixon.

7. Now you don't ask OJ for a knife.
You don't bet on the Cubs to win.

You don't marry Robert Blake and then go out to dinner--and you don't mess around with Jim.

You don't take Lorena Bobbitt to bed.

You don't let Patsy Ramsey baby-sit your children...but you can mess around with Ted?

2. to Freepers that's impossible for them to understand......
These are people who claim that government can't do anything right and yet they wouldn't last long without government programs like medicare and social security.

3. Ummm
Didn't Obama say that pretty much everything was broken and needed to be fixed?

A blanket call to never vote for a reform candidate? What candidate ever runs on the premise that things aren't broken and in need of fixing? That government isn't doing things right?

Just asking...

6. Repukes don't want to 'reform' anything. They just want to get rid of government.
At least, the government that protects people, saves lives, and improves the world.

They DO want a government that spies on people, judges people, and controls them to within an inch of their lives, while corporations run amok. In other words, fascism.

8. There's a huge difference between the two.
Pukes think government can't do anything right and set out to prove it. Obama thinks that government can work right and sets out to fix it.

5. Weird thing is that Freepers support the military unconditionally, as if it wasn't in gov't...
The men and women in the military work selflessly and under unrewarding conditions as civil servants. Freepers will never say a contrary word to our people in uniform. But for OTHER civil servants who devote their lives and careers in other branches of government they have the worst, most disrespectful things to say.

Government's sole function is to provide guns to protect rich people from poor people.

9. Before you get too self-righteous
Take note that the five states that are presently on the edge of bankruptcy are all very solid Democratic states.

But again, as I have been saying repeatedly, the problem is that NOTHING can work with the level of corruption that pervades our society on all levels. It doesn't matter what the mission is, no program or initiative or government can be effective with current levels of graft.

12. Some of that, at least, is because so much money
is being extracted from them via federal taxation, which is then given to (mostly) Republican states.

17. Just to add: Gov Arnie cut taxes, some quite significant, then turned around & borrowed $$$ at high
interests rates. Uber smart governing & money management, I'd say. :sarcasm:

14. Good lord. You cannot be serious promoting dem state = bankruptcy fallacy. Take a look around at the
majority of state treasuries before making that leap of logic. What is this? Freeperville? What's with the mindless talking point?

Agree on the corruption issue.

First stop: Citizens United v. FEC. http://www.c-span.org/Watch/Media/2009/09/09/HP/R/22917/CSPAN+Presents+a+Special+Session+on+Campaign+Finance+Case.aspx

Ok, so the above is largely out of our hands NOW. Can't say we didn't put up the good fight against the tsunami of Glenn Beck/teabagger type of stupidity over the years. But, alas, sometimes stupidity trumps all. So, at this point, education is key. Gotta understand why things will suck so much more should this ruling go against us, right?

I do hope limiting or stopping the furious flow of cash to bloated industries that needlessly bleed the treasury dry is high on your to-do list. Isn't the Big Corps' seemingly endless PR message "less government" and "let the free market work" blah blah blah? You know, the crap that is repeated ad nauseam via RW TV & radio.

Let's see how that works out for large entities milking & bilking .gov. Wonder how long they'd survive if .gov got out of their way monetarily. Let us let big oil, big ag, big pharma, health insurers, et al. sink or swim like the rest of us. Lmao.

16. And why are they on the edge of bankruptcy?
I can tell you straight-up that California is not a result of democratic policy, but instead centrist catering and handouts to corporate interests, followed by Republican rigging to get Grey Davis fired for the screwups of their boys in Enron, followed by Arnold the Incompetent.

Can't imagine the other four are much different.

20. Mostly it's pensions
the pension policies in most of these cases are outrageous.

A lot is in common in all these places - a lot of promises made for support in the past that couldn't be fulfilled, now we got the bill and are finding we can't pay it.
