'Explosive' Sibel Edmonds Cover Story at 'The American Conservative'

'Explosive' Sibel Edmonds Cover Story at 'The American Conservative'
4,000 word exclusive interview with 'the gagged FBI whistleblower on espionage, al-Qaeda, and secrets for sale'...

The American Conservative magazine breaks a 4,000 word interview with former FBI translator turned whistleblower Sibel Edmonds, by former CIA agent Phil Giraldi.

Here's the teaser from TACp...:
There’s a new issue of The American Conservative going to press today, and it includes a story that will make more than a few congressmen and foreign lobbyists intensely uncomfortable: an in-depth interview between Phil Giraldi and FBI whistleblower Sibel Edmonds. She tells us exactly how Turkish intelligence have penetrated national secrets, suborned government officials, and blackmailed Congress. It’s going to be explosive.

Good. Rightwingers are covering it. So hopefully that means the "liberal media" will now pay attention, right?

Well...Edmonds tells us today via email: "We've been getting foreign MSM inquiries; tons. Zilch here; so far..."

Not much of a surprise by now. After all, what U.S. media would possibly care about members of the U.S. Congress and high-ranking State and Defense Dept. officials taking bribes, being blackmailed, and enabling the theft and sale of U.S. nuclear secrets? Even if the allegations came under sworn and video-taped deposition by a former FBI translator who overheard such things first hand. Non-story, apparently...

I mailed the second edition of American Judas to Keith Olbermann two years ago. I never heard back from him. So I'm not sure if Keith doesn't want to touch this story, or if someone over his head in an editorial capacity is axing this. I'm VERY disappointed.

27. I agree with you, robertpaulsen. It would be nice to see Keith abandon his tired old schtick
of righteous indignation and Lou Dobbs imitations and just show some hard-hitting stuff like this Sibel Edmonds story.

It would be fantastic if Rachel were to take this and run with it. MSNBC may be leery of losing some of its well-placed corporate allies when the revelations get investigated. IF, big IF, they get investigated.

74. Could the MSM silence have anything to do........
..with the fact that, already, impeccable sources(such as Dan Rather) have fallen before the onslaught of "detail contradiction". Has anyone corroborated Sibel Edmons' allegations? I've always thought she is legitimate but the implications her testimony brings are too big to broadcast without a second source. Even if the MSM wasn't already controlled by corporate interests.

47. Giraldi isn't exactly right-wing. He's more like Scott Ritter
with a CIA background in Turkish geopolitics, which intersects with Sibel's revelations.

asking them to cover this story. I am glad it is finally
getting coverage, but I was hoping my fellow progressives
would cover it. I don't want to see a "right-wing"
spin on such a mind blowing story. Everyone should go to
bradblog.com and read the transcripts. It is the biggest ray
of sunshine to ever hit the Congress or the Government
employees who are charged with our safety. Please read these
transcripts. I hate to think how a "conservative"
mag will twist this enlightening story.

12. id venture to say that, what, 30% of all congresspersons are very corrupt?
that's a HUGE amount of officials taking $ or getting favors. Many do things which are questionable, but I'd say 30% are outright criminal. of course the figure could be in either direction, and many would say it's 4/5 of them. Who knows, but we know there are many that will do whatever for cash - we see it in our own lives from our friends & family that place money above honor.

28. AmConMag Had A Jan 2008 Story
on this. Written by Philip Giraldi, a former CIA Officer. Somebody sent it to me then. I skipped the intro in favor of some detail:

Her claims are specific, fact-based, and can be documented in detail. There is presumably an existing FBI file that could demonstrate the accuracy of many of her charges.

Her allegations are not insignificant. Edmonds claims that Marc Grossman—ambassador to Turkey from 1994-97 and undersecretary of state for political affairs from 2001-05—was a person of interest to the FBI and had his phone tapped by the Bureau in 2001 and 2002. In the third-highest position at State, Grossman wielded considerable power personally and within the Washington bureaucracy. He had access to classified information of the highest sensitivity from the CIA, NSA, and Pentagon, in addition to his own State Department. On one occasion, Grossman was reportedly recorded making arrangements to pick up a cash bribe of $15,000 from an ATC contact. The FBI also intercepted related phone conversations between the Turkish Embassy and the Pakistani Embassy that revealed sensitive U.S. government information was being sold to the highest bidder. Grossman, who emphatically denies Edmonds’s charges, is currently vice chairman of the Cohen Group, founded by Clinton defense secretary William Cohen, where he reportedly earns a seven-figure salary, much of it coming from representing Turkey.

After 9/11, Grossman reportedly intervened with the FBI to halt the interrogation of four Turkish and Pakistani operatives. According to Edmonds, Grossman was called by a Turkish contact who told him that the men had to be released before they told what they knew. Grossman said that he would take care of it and, per Edmonds, the men were released and allowed to leave the country.

Edmonds states that FBI phone taps from late 2001 reveal that Grossman tipped off his Turkish contact regarding the CIA weapons proliferation cover unit Brewster Jennings, which was being used by Valerie Plame, and that the Turk then informed the Pakistani intelligence service representative in Washington. It is to be assumed that the information was then passed on to the A.Q. Khan nuclear proliferation network.

There's so much more at http://www.amconmag.com/article/2008/jan/28/00012/ - I'd encourage you to click the link and read while waiting for the new story.

Is it any wonder that "Democratic" and Republican
congresspeople did whatever bush told them to do? He and
hi(completely politicized) CIA and FBI had all of them by the
short hairs. Either they (Congress) did his bidding or he
could threaten them with revealing the bribes, sex,
drugs...whatever... (please read "bradblog.com"). We
have got to stop this crap. I am sure it is still happening.

for her to just fade away. I consider her much more patriotic than our president who lets his politics dictate his decisions, not what is right. Forget the MSM. Why isn't the Obama administration listening and following this up? They are the elected officials. The media is independent, and we know where they stand. They are not answerable to us. We can ignore them. Our president should be finding out all the lies and evils of the past 8 years. The reason. They are so egregious and abominable. This is not a normal follow up of bad policies, hunting down the other party to disparage them because they are no longer in power (although that is a favorite technique of the GOPers). These are war crimes and murder and crimes against humanity, Mr. President.

There are some principles conservatives. The pro-war, pro-death ideologues, who are the likes of Cheney, Bush, Rummy, Wolfowitz, etc. are the neocons. The Irving Kristol's of the world. It was Bruce Fein, and others who constantly talked about the abuses of the Bushes and their abuses of the Constitution. In any event, this could be one of those "Nixon goes to China" moments, and it may receive a ton of coverage.

Whenever some damning new evidence is revealed. Whenever some heinous * Era attrocity is newly unearthed. Whenever some story breaks anywhere in the world that could cause discomfort to someone on the Right.

A blonds girls goes missing.

Of course... since she is the only American ever to go missing, naturally, the media feels obligated to cover this story 24 hours a day, seven days a week... Dedicating every single minute of coverage to this heart rending story, to the exclusion of all else.

Nothing could possibly be more important...

63. What is it about lovely, intelligent women of integrity the RW finds so threatening?
Edited on Sat Sep-19-09 08:59 AM by IDemo
Oh, that's right - they often have unfortunate truth to reveal involving criminal shenanigans by members of their Big Club. At least Valerie Wilson got her day in the Senate to tell her story. I don't expect the same to happen for ms Edmonds, though; it's "time to look forward", you know...

66. I hadn't known anything about this woman, but I found some interesting stuff.
This Congresswoman's married with children, grown children, but she is bisexual. ... So they have sent Turkish female agents, and that Turkish female agents work for Turkish government, and have sexual relationship with this Congresswoman in her townhouse ... and the entire episodes of their sexual conduct was being filmed because the entire house, this Congressional woman's house was bugged. ... to be used for certain things that they wanted to request ... I don't know if she did anything illegal afterward. ... the Turkish entities, wanted both congressional related favoritism from her, but also her husband was in a high position in the area in the state she was elected from, and these Turkish entities ran certain illegal operations, and they wanted her husband's help. But I don't know if she provided them with those.

This link has her entire testimony.

75. Who is the woman congressman?
Wonder why the woman congresman's (D) name wasn't mentioned while several others were named? Wonder if the lady is from California, headed the House intelligence committee, accused of consorting with AIPAC, and has a husband who was an under-secretary of Commerce? Just wondering if her initials are JH.

71. so, outing Brewster Jennings
a network that monitored nuclear weapons proliferation is treason. Not only was the network exposed and made impotent, but the safety of our country, as well as other countries, was compromised. For what?

78. Since, the female politician is a Democrat
I really am not too interested in her bisexuality. It is the hypocrisy that I don't tolerate, from those who espouse "family values" and screech about morality. To me, if that person is serving the interest of the people and have shown deeds protecting the interests of the American people, I really could care less about sexual preferences. However, if they are being blackmailed and cave in to such blackmail against the interest of the American people, then I'd be less willing to pardon. What's wrong with coming forward and admitting, instead of selling out your constituents?

Some of these politicians, to me, would be better served when being blackmailed to just come forward. Come forward publicly and state that this government has been listening to my calls or this government set me up to get dirt on me-attempting to force me to do their bidding, but, I won't play their game. Yes, I did this and I apologize to my family (since it's a private thing), but I'm not going to be bribed.
