Something seems very suspect about the latest ACORN video. See here >>>>>>
Edited on Fri Sep-18-09 12:09 AM by mzmolly
*I know we're all a bit burnt-out on ACORN but the director of ACORN claims the tapes were doctored and I feel this video bolsters her case.*

First of all, it sounds like O'Keefe overdubs his voice in the video at times. However what strikes me as the most suspicious happens about 4 minutes into the tape. Hannah Giles implies to the ACORN worker that they're expecting girls who are coming into the US and that they want to get to the girls before the pimp does, to prevent the pimp from bonding with said girls. Tell me, how does this statement fit into the "we're trafficking minor hookers, please help us out" scenario?

After watching the video above, I think it's very likely that O'Keefe and Giles told ACORN employees, (at least in this situation) that they were attempting to help the underage girls vs. use and abuse them?

PLEASE WATCH here ~ http://biggovernment.com/2009/09/17/acorn-video-prostitution-scandal-in-san-diego-ca/

Let me know your thoughts.

1. More about the so called filmmaker ~
James O'Keefe is an activist filmmaker. He credits include the "Bailout Prize Patrol" produced for Right.Org in 2009. He also directed, scripted, produced and acted in a series of undercover videos showcasing racism and statutory rape at Planned Parenthood in 2007 and 2008.

...

His most recent project is Veritasvisuals.com, a collection of satirical short films on newsworthy topics, featuring ridiculous situations and demands.

...

His work has been featured on CNN and Fox News.

James got his start producing videos banning "H20" and "Lucky Charms" at his alma mater, Rutgers University, where he founded The Centurion in 2004.

I wonder if O'Keefe was simply making a "satirical short film" and is being treated like a reporter? Seems the satire thing gives him much legal wiggle room?

7. More like he is a fame addict that found a niche and and organization to back him
His previous effort was with an anti-abortion site called liveaction.org. Live action is an offshoot of Morton Blackwell's Leadership Institute. http://mobile.gothamist.com/2009/09/17/acorn_video_sting_guy_also_targeted.php">Blackwell heaps praise on O'Keefe and is referred to as the young man's mentor:

One of his mentors, right-wing activist Morton Blackwell, explains that O'Keefe always "wanted to go out and catch leftists breaking the law." So he went on to enlist a cohort to pose as a 13-year-old girl and visit Planned Parenthood in California, where she told a counselor she was pregnant and the father was 31. The counselor was required by law to report what would have been rape to the police, but the girl was only told how to get an abortion. Now that's gotcha "journalism"!

http://www.sourcewatch.org/index.php?title=Morton_C._Blackwell

My theory is that O'Keefe desires the spotlight and realized that a certain wingnut organization would eat his pap with a spoon, so he joined up.

20. Morton Blackwell, founder of Leadership Institute, also:
Morton Blackwell resume includes:

- President, International Policy Forum

"a foundation which promotes educational exchanges between conservatives in the US and pro-freedom leaders in other countries."

IPF trains rightwing conservatives around the world in New Right political techniques. Paul Weyrich chairs IPF.

Blackwell has also trained rightist political forces in Latin America and Africa through IPF, notably:

- supporters of the Pinochet military dictatorship,

- Argentinean rightists

- supporters of Inkatha chief Buthelezi in South Africa.

It was Buthelezi's group that later attempted to create civil war in South Africa to keep apartheid policies in place.
Inkatha worked with pro-apartheid and neo-nazi groups to stop the elections eventually won by Nelson Mandela.
A number of IPF projects, including the Inkatha training, were aided by U.S. government funding through the National Endowment for Democracy"

Too bad so few out here know who this slime merchant...along with Floyd Brown are. They've built a "farm system" of slimers like this hack who I'm certain played fast and loose with both his editing and his subjects. My hopes are he's subpoened to give up not just his "dry"/unedited video and scripts but also all correspondence relating to the video...find out who is really behind this. The kid's a definite gun for hire...Blackwell's stock & trade.

At one point he clearly tells them he wants specific information because he is working with the District Attorney's office.

This could be a total misrepresentation and due note should be taken of the fact that they waited until after shoving the Baltimore and DC videos out there to make the way to people automatically jumping to conclusions.

It's really astounding.

They might not like this, but I think they need to really examine what biases might play a role in how quickly they fell for this. Maybe if these people had been of a higher class or dressed nicer some of the folks on DU would not be so quick to believe that they couldn't see right through these two clowns. Of course they themselves can see how obvious it was that these two were full of it and acting, but the people right their in the room couldn't?

O'Keefe's voice is probably stronger sounding because the hidden mike is on his person.

However, I will say the two don't make clear their intentions, meaning that one might assume they're trying to bring girls over the border in order to protect them.

14. I think they went in and indicated that they were trying to help, and twisted the truth
in the editing process. To my understanding, they have implied previously that they told ACORN they were trafficking young girls and needed their help. The statement I noted above about getting to the girls before their pimp does, appears to contradict their initial story.

That said, it is possible that they told different stories at different offices? But I strongly suspect that these people are being highly deceitful in their representation of events. ;) I would enjoy seeing the entire video, but I'm sure that will never happen.

I thought his voice sounded dubbed because it became louder in certain parts? But, one never knows...

What is your source for that? Are you in contact with her? If not then we have to publicize this stuff ourselves.

this particular tape is unequivocally doctored and put together out of order, no question. People may not believe the ACORN director's assertions about them being doctored, but the proof in this tape is hard to deny.

If you add this to the woman who punked them with the fake story about killing her husband, I would think that a lot of doubts would occur in a lot of people's minds.

Congress needs to understand and admit that they've been played and they need to restore funding to an organization that did not deserve to lose it.

There need to be defamation lawsuits brought by anyone who lost their job due to misrepresentation by O'Keefe.

about the girls that are being brought into the country. Right in the middle of the story, about 2:32 into the video, it is spliced and O'Keefe says he wants to bring in a chair. This is obviously an important, yet missing piece of the conversation. O'Keefe later asks if the conversation is confidential and another piece of the video is obviously edited.

I think they would have been better off not posting the latest charade. The first two videos were not quite as apparent.

Glen Greenwald's column yesterday was spot on:
Salon .com 9/17/09
The distracting benefits of ACORN hysteria

(snip)
Apparently, the problem for middle-class and lower-middle-class Americans is not that their taxpayer dollars are going to prop up billionaires, oligarchs and their corrupt industries. It's that America's impoverished -- a group that is growing rapidly -- is getting too much, has too much power and too little accountability. Anonymous Liberal has a superb post on the manipulative inanity of the Fox-generated ACORN "scandal" (h/t D-day):

Let's take a step back and consider just what ACORN is. It is a non-profit organization whose mission is to empower and improve the lives of poor people. As with many other organizations, ACORN has a number of legally distinct parts, each of which has different sources of funding and engages in different kinds of activities (ACORN's conservative enemies routinely conflate these various parts to imply that ACORN is using federal money for improper political purposes). Since its founding the 70s, ACORN and its employees and volunteers have fought successfully to, among other things, increase minimum wages across the country, increase the quality of public education in poor areas, and protect people from predatory lending practices. In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, ACORN helped rebuild thousands of homes and assisted victims in relocating and finding housing outside of New Orleans. The ACORN activity that has drawn the most conservative ire is its voter registration efforts which, consistent with ACORN's mission, are primarily aimed at low-income voters (who tend to vote Democratic). . . .

But even if you take these film-makers at face value and assume the worst, the reality is that ACORN has thousands of employees and the vast majority of them spend their days trying to help poor people through perfectly legal means (and receive very little compensation for doing so). Even before yesterday's Senate vote, the amount of federal money that went to ACORN was very small. This is a relatively insignificant organization in the grand scheme of things, but it's an organization that has unquestionably fought over the years to improve the lives of the less fortunate in this country.

Just saying. It's a big shell game for the corporations and extremely rich who are really making off like bandits in the government contract/bailout scheme. Don't look at the real thieves behind the curtain. :grr:

Reality? Thousands?!
According to Bertha Lewis,
ACORN has 700 employees. See:

==================================================================================================================================
. . . . . . . . . .

JUAN GONZALEZ: But when you started getting these visits from these strange people, did you put out any kind of a memo to the rest of your organization: Be on the lookout for these folks who are visiting our offices? What was the sort of internal communications that you had that might have been ableor didnt havethat might have been able to avoid these four or five people that you say that acted inappropriately?

BERTHA LEWIS: Well, first of all, Juan, thats a veryyou know, thats a very good observation, because these visits were spread out throughout the summer, and they were random all over. And so, we probably could have done a better job saying, Did you see these crazy-dressed people in your office? I think a lot of folks took it as a joke. And we didntyou know, again, we have 700 employees and over sixty-some offices. So there was a little breakdown to say that maybe people ought to watch out for it. Thats why were doing this review, so that anything thats out of the ordinary, well now have a system to say, Whoa, wait a minute!

We know that the right is doing a relentless campaign against us. We have to step up our procedures to make sure that we protect ourselves, because we dont even know what the right wing can think of next. We never would have thought that they could have thought this up, but they did.

32. BTW ~ Here is the verbatim statement in question "the girls are coming this weekend,
that's why we're in an emergency situation, that's why we like ran in here for help, because I wanna get them before the pimp has time to bond with them and you know, herd them away. So, I don't know how to deal with that."

The questions are quite racist as well ... the question that preceded the statement above was Q - "As a latino man, do you have any recommendations in terms of the El Salvadorian girls comin' over and making sure they don't get caught by people in the community?"

As a latino man? :eyes:

Caught doing what? Being saved from their pimp? This story simply does not fit into the box provided by Faux News.

Taking away from a pimp might well be the intention behind each of these statements.

The breaks might have been needed to hide that that's what he was thinking.

In any case, that video was at least edited, taking some parts out, maybe inserting parts at four times that I could see.

42. In the DC video, the "college kid" also claims to be helping the prostitute get away from her pimp.

The ACORN employee interpreted this to mean he was trying to help her go straight. She said something along the lines of "I want to help you since you're trying to help her go straight".

So we're supposed to hate on ACORN for trying to help women get out of prostitution?

I understand why this would appeal to the conservative crowd who believe "once a criminal, always a criminal so let's just off the bitch". But how the fuck did they get so many DUers agreeing with this shit?

44. I just watched the first video on that page.
The impression I get from the ACORN guy is that he's playing along trying to get information from them. He kept asking them for the location. At one point he even mentions working with district attorneys. It sounds like he wanted to help the girls.

The two actors seemed to me to be very ambiguous in what they were saying. Were they planning to prostitute the girls? Were they trying to save them from prostitution? They mentioned preventing them from bonding with the pimp, that could be taken two ways.

The whole thing is quite ambiguous. Add to that the fact that we don't know what kind of editing was done to it. One thing that was very noticeable to me was the fact that the actors voices sounded much different than the ACORN employee's. They were louder and clearer. Maybe the explanation for that is that they were wearing hidden mikes, but it leaves open the possibility that entirely new dialog was dubbed in after the fact.

IANAL, but this doesn't strike me as something that would hold up in a court of law and, as such, not something that justifies pulling their funding.

This tape was absolutely - no question - edited disingenuously. They need to be called to the carpet for this shit. People lost their jobs and an important progressive organization that has done a lot of good has lost its funding.

This needs to be on the front page.

Olberman and Maddow need to know about this. The tape is very clearly edited in a disingenuous manner. At least one segment is repeated, possibly more! We clearly cannot know which questions the gentleman from ACORN was actually answering at any point in that video. We can't even know for sure that all of the questions we hear were even asked in that office.

The whole thing is ambiguous. I get the impression that the ACORN gentleman thought that he was trying to protect the young girls rather than prostitute them.

77. this first video is heavily edited and sounds more like they are trying save the girls
from pimps and becoming prostitutes. The second one is more damning though because it's clear the Acorn emp. Juan knows that the girl with the filmmaker is a prostitute, because of how she's dressed and he asks her how much she charges etc... So even though he says he'd help them smuggle the el salvador girls into the country it's not clear whether or not THEY will be used as prostitutes- just because the woman with the filmmaker claimed to be. This was clearly a setup- they probably heard this guy Juan was a rogue employee and targeted him. In any case- even if he was trying to save them from pimps in El Salvador, what he suggested they do was illegal and this should be thoroughly investigated and Acorn needs to do better training and screening of their employees. "trust the mexicans" not good.

The fact that this video, with its cuts, voiceovers, and obviously selective editing, is even considered worthy of national media attention FOR ITS STATED PURPOSE is unbelievable. It SHOULD BE USED for exposing these right-wing conspirators for trying to set up a man who was just doing his job AND who apparently did absolutely nothing to help these imbeciles. With no followup to this video and the actions or inaction of the ACORN rep, we have no way of knowing if he was just bored so he listened to this crazy story; or if he was trying to get more information so he could turn these human traffickers over to the authorities; or if he was really going to help them.

Our Democratic leadership has once again caved to an outlandish smear campaign against ACORN. Folks, we are in DEEP TROUBLE in this country.

89. Click the 'home' tab, that site is all about ACORN entrapment...
If I were those people, I'd want to make very sure that all my little PI ducks were in a row so as to not violate someone else's civil rights to *not* be entrapped so and in particular by means of digital manipulation

We've worn digital assets into boardrooms and onto operational platforms. But these are internal services where entities have an interest in understanding the levels of compliance their operation is engaging with insofar as any interface with the public or other operations beyond. With respect to digital capture and where the matter is bona fide; these processes often require being bonded beneath an over-arching PI status able to be writ for the duration of the sample or on a basis able to cross state lines as required

So it is clear that even at that rate people have a right not to be taped, probed, fucked with or be entrapped by means of uncivil misrepresentation ='ing fraud - a lot of people go to work and come back home maybe pickup some cat food have a drink, they have little interest in having their civil rights violated in the course of being inducted/kidnapped by way of entrapment into an episode of the same-ole-much-less-improved law breaking neocon gong show

So I hope these shit-heads ---> http://biggovernment.com/contributors have their shit together cause it seems that whereby California law has applied they've violated the personal, civil rights of ACORN employees

including complete audio and transcripts, they already have of many of the instances- see Big Government dot com. They are waiting again for people to make fools of themselves defending this. Their MO is to wait for supporters to twist themselves up trying to come up with some goofy defense then they release more info that makes them look like complete tools.

Do you seriously think that both houses of congress, 14 state attorney generals (so far), governors across the country, and most importantly ACORN itself would be taking action if these tapes were an edited attempt to distort what they really meant to do (to save the girl from an evil pimp)? LOL! Don't be an idiot, what these people have done is disgusting and the behavior that shows up so often in ACORN offices is very, very serious. for people to justify this sick behavior is really quite vile.

http://biggovernment.com/2009/09/19/full-transcript-acorn-prostitution-scandal-san-diego-part-ii/

After people read it and defenders say- "this is all made up!", they will release the full audio in mp3 format. When the inevitable cries go out that "..anyone could do that in their garage!", they will release the video. It is their strategy this time, it's quite obvious that in addition to attacking ACORN they are aiming at hitting hard at attacking credibility. They waited until the one of the first statemnets came out from ACORN that "..nothing happened in NY or CA" to release first Brooklyn then San Bernadino then San Diego tapes.

This has been the pattern.

Edited on Sun Sep-20-09 01:04 AM by mzmolly
for starters. Note how the conversation on the transcript differs from the video starting at about 2 minutes into the tape? NO WHERE does THIS video, posted on biggovernment.com show Ms. Giles or Mr. O'Keefe saying the girls are going to be used for prostitution!!!

For example, start watching the video at 2:20 (page 4 of the transcript) search for the word "chair". Note how a crucial portion of the conversation is missing after O'Keefe says "can I pull up a chair?"

The transcript GREATLY differs with the content of the video. The transcript includes statements that are CLEARLY missing from the video. So tell me, why are you so quick to believe that the transcript is accurate? Why the need for O'Keefe to edit out the MOST damning portions of the conversation?

I've barely read the transcripts, and the "pattern" shows not only that much is considered "unintelligible" but much of the so called conversation is MISSING. There are CLEAR AND COMPELLING differences between the transcript and the conversation posted online.

Speaking of "patterns" ... I'll judge Mr. Vera when I have ALL of the information at my disposal. I do not trust Giles and O'keefe (who are shown lying on video tape) to be honest with anyone. You are free to differ.

118. Juan Carlos: "let me um understand what did you what did you wanna what do you want?"
Edited on Sun Sep-20-09 01:24 PM by mzmolly
Juan Carlos, page 9 of the first transcript, after the crime of saying "yeah and uhuh" STILL does not know what these people are asking of him. I'm even more disgusted after reading the transcript. Vera is guilty of taking information and saying yeah on several occasions.

Juan Vera, at one point, takes a phone number, again, seemingly not knowing what they want from him. And as others have pointed out, on page 25 of the first transcript, O'keefe and Giles claim to be afraid because Juan Vera wanted information and then said he works with the D.A.!

What things do you need from me in terms of like the shipment information. What can I give you, what information would you further need would help you in, in advice you would give me?
Juan Carlos: The location.
James: The location?
Juan Carlos: Yeah.
James: Where, whereabouts like what type like the city? State? What do you need?
Juan Carlos: Ahhh the location, they gonna, they ga afternoon.
James: Thats fine. Any time after five works actually.
Juan Carlos: Ok, James: So what information do you need from me the location where the girls are being shipped? Juan Carlos: Yeah.
James: What else?
Juan Carlos: And I need that its possible to maybe I like dis is you say private.
James: Yes
Juan Carlos: I ah because we work before with the lawyers
James: Ok
Juan Carlos: Ah, ah, you say um, district lawyers.
James: What are they called?
Juan Carlos: District lawyers.
James: District attorneys?
Juan Carlos: District attorneys.
James: The prosecutors?
Juan Carlos: Yes. James: Youre working with the prosecutors?
Juan Carlos: Yeah. San Diego

Continued on page 26

James: Well then thats, thats not good.
Juan Carlos: Yeah, thats not good but le me, le me see. I think I want to send an email to you.
James: Okay. Juan Carlos: Im gonna send email what youre looking for.
Eden/Hannah: You know but how do we know like, honestly like I dont feel very comfortable right now.
Like, I just like gave you a bunch of info and I dont know if we trust you like.
James: Oh, that, that they said, they said that ACORN was a. theyre different then the banks.
Eden/Hannah: I know but like Im still scared. I dont know

On page 4 of the second transcript, Giles and O'Keefe continue to express feigned concern?

Alright. And, Im trusting you but, youre, youre not going to go and tell youre DA Friends right? Cause
Your police friends you just told me about.

JC - No, ah, I have, have two polices is my, is my family.
Oh, its your family? Its not through
JC- No, its my cousins. I, I never, I never see my cousinsI see them only at parties.
Yeah.
But this ah, this conversation is never, never, never go on.
JC - (trying to brush them off) Thank you. Trust the Mexican people, Man!
HG - (batting her eyelashes, and playing the victim) I mean its hard to trust a man.
I mean, I trust him nut for me its really hard.
JC - Yeah?
Yeah,
JC - (further demonstrating his language barrier) Yeah but trust me. I, I, I dont have a uh how do you say for affect (?) somebody.
You don't have what?
JC - I don't, I don't, I don't have how do you say like out to get somebody? I, I, I don't why I talk to somebody for this you know
Okay.

Giles and O'Keefe weren't the only people trying to ascertain information that may be incriminating, as Mr. Vera tried to get information on the girls who were supposedly coming in so called containers, and HE REPORTED THE INCIDENT TO POLICE! No where, in any of these transcripts did he offer to help smuggle anyone into the country! He may have suggested a location so that he knew what to tell the D.A. He took names, numbers and emails and he played along saying something about having contacts in Mexico. And again, the BOTTOM LINE is, he contacted police.

94. The way I interpret the first video is the Acorn guy, Juan, is getting information from these two
and intends to turn it over to authorities. He told them point blank he works with the District Attorney. When he told them that, O'Keefe said that's not good and Juan said no, it's not. I'm not real sure what Juan said or did that got everyone all riled up in that video...he listened to an outlandish story from 2 people who looked like high schoolers playing dress up and asked for information, then told them he works with the District Attorney. It seemed pretty clear to me that he intended to give the information to authorities.

In the 2nd video, he said he wouldn't tell the police after they ask him if he will, but I didn't believe that and thought he said that so those 2 would continue to stay in contact with him. It was my feeling that Juan was going to turn this over to authorities so they could look into it. He also said he had friends or family members in the police department who worked with prostitution, and I think his question about what she charged was to see if she was full of shit.

Honestly, O'Keefe and his girlfriend looked like a couple of kids play acting and the story they concocted, especially coming from 2 fresh-faced preppy type kids in costume, just didn't seem believable. And then telling Juan they were told to go to Acorn to get help with 12 underage prostitutes coming across the border illegally...just not believable imo.

101. MzMolly, I just watched the video
I'll have to watch it again, don't have time right now. But I noticed that the ACORN worker told them he works with District Attorneys. It is very likely that they told him they wanted to save the girls from the pimp, and he was letting them know that he could help with that. Just as likely as what they are claiming.

The tape is edited, so it's impossible to know what transpired before they got to this part of it.

They should be required to hand over all tapes because there is no way this should be allowed to stand alone, with just their interpretation of it. They were no interested, eg, when he said he worked with DAs.

It's good to see that there's some of us who are looking at this objectively, this thread is proving that point. Sometimes I just can't believe that DU has so many people who get so easily sucked in by Breitbart & Faux's agenda without thinking about it critically 1st.

106. I did see that and gave it a rec when it was posted. I hope that more scrutiny
into Giles and O'Keefe will follow some of the info that's coming out. Turns out Mr. Vera contacted police. He was told he did not have enough information for them to help. The police have confirmed this according to various reports. :(

115. The only damning thing I see in these 2 videos is highly suspect editing
The ACORN worker spoke very little. He listened. He sat there pensively and listened -- a lot.

What I heard: there would be a shipment of under-aged girls coming in from El Salvador that needed help before a pimp was able to get his grubby hands on them.

The ACORN worker couldn't stop the shipment, but he could, and did gather as much information as possible.

If this 'sting' really bore fruit, then why isn't there information on the follow-up phone call the ACORN worker was going to make to them?

I agree with the others in this thread about the editing of this video, clearly at one point one splice was replayed later in the video.

I've been angry about this all week. The knee-jerk reaction in Congress pissed me off. The Democrats know full-well the VRWC has had a hard-on for ACORN. The Democrats also know the Right-Wing lies through their teeth. But I suppose it's easier to take political cover. I tried to convince myself the Democrats didn't want the distraction away from the Health Care issue. Who knows, at this point.

I don't trust that the Right Wing won't go back time and again until ACORN is finally killed off. My fear has been that the Right would 'plant' workers into ACORN to sabotage the group's efforts.

I would like to see a full scale investigation. I want to see all the tapes - all unedited. I want to see the filmmaker and his 'prostitute' friend under oath.

128. Juan contacted police after O'Keefe left.
http://www.10news.com/news/20975217/detail.html

Vera said he was told the woman needed to escape her controlling pimp, who wouldn't let her start a new life.

Immediately, Vera said he offered to call the police but the filmmaker quickly stopped him.

"Don't call the police because I'm gonna be a lawyer," O'Keefe said in the video.

After the pair left the building, Vera said he called the National City Police Department.

National City police confirmed that Vera contacted them, but said there was not enough information about the couple to file a formal report.

Vera was also seen in the video asking the woman posing as a prostitute how much she charges.
