The mercenary group formerly known as Blackwater International, which was banned from Iraq by its government after a Baghdad massacre which killed 17 civilians, will see its contract extended in the country by the U.S. State Department, according to a published report.

<snip>

Controversy has surrounded the private security firm practically since it was founded, but erupted anew recently when former employees accused Blackwater’s founder and former CEO of murdering or facilitating the murders of other employees who were preparing to blow the whistle on his alleged criminal activities.

The sworn statements also say that founder Erik Prince and Blackwater executives were involved in illegal weapons smuggling and had, on numerous occasions, ordered incriminating documents, e-mails, photos and video destroyed. The former employees described Blackwater as “having young girls provide oral sex to Enterprise members in the ‘Blackwater Man Camp’ in exchange for one American dollar.” They add even though Prince frequently visited this camp, he “failed to stop the ongoing use of prostitutes, including child prostitutes, by his men.”

One of the statements also charges that “Prince’s North Carolina operations had an ongoing wife-swapping and sex ring, which was participated in by many of Mr. Prince’s top executives.”

The former employees additionally claim that Prince was engaged in illegal arms dealing, money laundering, and tax evasion, that he created “a web of companies in order to obscure wrong-doing, fraud, and other crimes,” and that Blackwater’s chief financial officer had “resigned … stating he was not willing to go to jail for Erik Prince.”

..more..

3. Can't wait for all the people to come on here and defend blackwater
just a few bad apples, clearly they were being set up, or maybe just playing along for fun, whoever exposed them should go to jail, don't punish all of them for the actions of a few, try to understand the environment they were working in and this all makes sense, and so on.

Yep.

4. All I want is for ONE standard to be applied. You're going to apply a 0-tolerance rule to ACORN?
Edited on Thu Sep-17-09 12:52 PM by kenny blankenship
Great. Let's apply that standard to GS, Bank of America, Citi, J.P.M. and all the other government sponsored enterprises. Let's apply that standard to Blackwater/Xe and Dyncorp.
Or is the rule just for those that help poor minority neighborhoods?

6. I'd be for that
or at least demanding an extensive, internal investigation followed by a third party investigation before resuming funding. Followed by some firings, and changes to training protocol.

But right now there seems to be 2 standards on here: ACORN can do as it pleases and should still be funding, blackwater may not.

Accountability does seem to be an issue.

7. Seems to me you've got the facts reversed. Blackwater is getting paid and receiving new contracts
no investigation is going forward against them, despite credible and repeated allegations made by Blackwater personnel that Blackwater operated a prostitution ring including child prostitutes for their own staff. This was not a "pretend" prostitution ring that someone said they were going to create but didn't actually intend to, it was not a college prank but an allegation made by inside whistleblowers of overt acts taking place over a period of time using government funds and well-known to Blackwater management. Where is the formal investigation?

Meanwhile ACORN is being summarily de-funded by Congress, prior to and without any investigation.

8. Like I said,
I'd be for an investigation and "clearing house", for both.

The fact that blackwater got away with it, however, should not give everyone else liscense to do the same. Instead of calling for ACORN to be given a pass we should be calling for blackwater to be taken to task for it's wrong doings.

2Xwrong =! right.

11. Blackwater kills people and is responsible for the rape of children
ACORN has a worker who decided (ill-advisedly) to yank back at someone she knew was yanking her chain.

You're trying to draw equivalency between actually committing extensive crimes, and joking with a dumbass on hidden camera.

That's some ignorant shit.

:hi:

yes, those ppl are scary!

Jeremy Scahill has done awesome research on Blackwater and has a book,
that I doubt I'd have the stomach to get through, given it's disturbing content.

Jeremy Scahill Slams Chuck Todd, Media, Congress Over Blackwater On "Real Time With Bill Maher" (VIDEO)

First Posted: 08-23-09

Jeremy Scahill sparred with NBC political director Chuck Todd on Friday, forcefully criticizing journalists and lawmakers for treading lightly on Blackwater's recently-revealed misdeeds.

Newly declassified memos this week showed that the CIA hired Blackwater, a private military security company, years ago as part of an effort to kill senior Al-Qaeda officials and other designated terrorists.

Scahill, who has written a popular book about Blackwater, had scathing comments about the organization, calling it "Erik Prince's Christian supremacist fighting force to eliminate Muslims and destroy Islam globally, and then they bill taxpayers again for this killing that they're doing and they're not held to the same standard as soldiers."

"There are Iraqi and Afghan people that are forced to face down against them, when, I'm sorry, the US Congress does nothing to stop it," he continued, "and journalists have done nothing to hold the White House accountable now, Chuck, or under Bush. This has not been an issue and yet it constitutes more than half of the fighting force in Afghanistan."

Scahill singled out Todd, a fellow panelist on HBO's "Real Time With Bill Maher", for not taking the issue more seriously. "Chuck, you called it political cat-nip to talk about the CIA and Cheney's role in this, because it distracts from the important issues," he said. "This is a central issue and you called it cable cat-nip."

Here is video of Scahill singling out Todd:
