She wore a Green Dress
I was four years old when my parents took me to a Peter, Paul and Mary concert. This was in Birmingham, Alabama in the turbulent year of 1963. I was far to young to understand what was happening in that troubled city at the time or the significance of what they were singing about. But I do remember that Mary wore a green dress and they sang "Puff the Magic Dragon".

1. I saw them live, twice.
They were great.

2. Never got to see them
I never got to see them in concert, but owned many of their records. I used to hide in my room, play their music and sing along for hours.

The universe has dimmed.

4. Neither did I...
By the time I was old enough to start going to concerts, they had broken up. By the time they got back together, I was married and had more important things to spend my money on.

A few years ago, a friend told me how much she had enjoyed seeing them several times in the decade before that. I decided that I would go the next time they showed up here, but that was about the time Mary fell ill and, although they performed elsewhere after that, they never got back to the Pacific Northwest.

My mom told me that, a number of years ago, she and my father were on a NY-Boston shuttle with Mary and Peter, so I guess that's about as close a connection as I'm ever going to get. So it goes.
