7. It was a chilly, dreary November evening in 1976.
A Sunday, as I recall. We'd only been married for a few months and we were living up on the North Shore of Chicago.

I didn't feel like cooking and my husband suggested that this would probably be a good night to take me to Ratso's on Lincoln Avenue as he'd been promising to. As we walked up, I read the sign out front and asked "THE Mary Travers?". He asked who THE Mary Travers might be and I explained that she was the M in PP&M and he just sort of rolled his eyes.

When she came on stage just after we'd given our order, she explained in a sadly hoarse voice that she'd been battling a nasty case or laryngitis all day, but wanted to give it a try.

As she sang, her voice became stronger and clearer with each note.

We noshed on the best oysters the city had to offer while being entertained by a lovely and fantastic performer.

Nice memory. Sad news.
