I guess I'm just gonna have to knock out my own teeth...
...ala Castaway.

I can't afford to have 'em looked at.
I can't afford public transport to try to go to a free clinic
or something...
I can't afford to keep myself in aspirin much longer.

Here in lovely, lovely America,
I can't afford to live.

I can't afford to die, either... shit.

WHADDA COUNTRY!

1. But if you join the Active Duty Military, you can enjoy both fully socialized ...
and fully covered MEDICAL and DENTAL care.

Does that mean that health care in the Military as well as that for Seniors (Medicare) is .... SOCIALISM? :wow: ;)

rotted - she took waaaaay too my TYLENOL.
You MUST DO SOMETHING. Is their a dental school nearby?

13. The OP mentioned aspirin, not tylenol.
Aspirin is safer.

3. People around here used to drive down to Mexico
and one of the crossings is still safe, even though the Juarez one can be pretty dicey these days.

Unfortunately for them, Stupid's paranoid administration says they need passports to go down to get their teeth fixed.

They could barely afford the gas down and back. There is no way they can afford the birth certificate copy and the money for a passport on top of it.

Missing teeth are common in this state among people over 35. Now we're going to see heart valve disease from infections spread by rotten teeth as even more common.

One paranoid bit of legislation that desperately needs to be overturned is that stupid passport requirement for Mexico, Canada, and the islands.

It's not inconvenience. It's life and death for poor folks in this state.

4. Go talk to a dentist to see if you can work out a payment plan
Don;t make any assumptions, go it and have a talk. You might (yes, you might not) get pleasantly surprised at how understanding he/she may be.

7. Unfortunately, I'm in San Diego now...
I've gotta update that.

SF did have a lot of good subsidized services... but I couldn't afford
to stay there.

Here in SD, it's a lot harder to find services for the poor and indigent...

And a LOT harder to get around.

I'm sorry I wasted your time pulling that list together; I'll update my
profile immediately.

8. United Way runs a service called First Call for Help if you dial 1-800-HELP555
they should be able to help you find any services in your area. (You could also try dialing 211 for this, in some areas they use that number)

In the meantime, if you can afford it, ibuprofin tends to be a better pain killer for tooth pain. Or, depending on what the problem is, the teething stuff you put on babies gums may give you temporary relief and a salt water rinse will help some if your gums are inflamed (as well as Vitamin C).

10. I got a list of over-the-border dentists from grantcart.
He was OK with people PM'ing him about the info.

My husband's in the same boat. he has crappy english teeth and they are falling apart despite the care he takes of them.

Good luck!

11. Let's just stop the age discrimination in Medicare
Why can't we all benefit? We all sure do pay for it. Unfortunately most of the money spent goes to an industry that is hell bent on denying for it own profit. I'm thinking of joining this convoy and taking true health care parity to Washington...Single payer, expanded and improved Medicare for all.

12. Okay, you live in San Diego, try this...
Loma Linda University Dental School

http://www.llu.edu/dentistry/

I'm currently a patient at the University of Texas San Antonio dental school.

If you are a patient you only pay for the materials used. Nothing more.

I just got two implants and it only cost me 1300 instead of the 7-8 grand at a regular dentist.

Plus many schools have payment programs.

Give a try. Good luck.

14. Thank you all for your responses...
It's nice to feel that there are some people out there who give a shit...

My tooth problem is not quite as full-scale DEFCON 4 at the moment as it was
when I first posted; I'll do my best to follow up on some of the organizations
referenced here...

Again, THANX!

:hi:
