New Footage of the 9/11 WTC Attack
New Footage above of the moment the second plane crashed into the World Trade Centre on September 11, 2001,has been released. These new images are just a few minutes among hundreds of hours of amateur video and images being collected by the National September 11 Memorial and Museum at the World Trade Center which has launched a website containing examples of citizen journalism of the tragedy.

Video in link.

Edited on Fri Sep-11-09 12:45 PM by Dennis Donovan
Flt 175 came in from the south and the video shows it entering left into frame - this would put the location of the camera to the SSE of the WTC. Brooklyn...;):hi:

It's definitely in Brooklyn. The site says so, and puts the camera about a mile away.

The paper flying through the air that far away and still going is incredible.

33. Yes, impossible for it to be NJ
The second tower to be hit was hit from the south which would have put it going right to left into the building if from NJ and not as shown on the video.

Also, that day the wind was blowing from NW which accounts for it being such a clear day and paper would not fly across the Hudson River against the wind.

Which way was it blowing immediately after impact?

37. Wind from the NW, towards Brooklyn, pretty stiff wind too
with Hurricane Erin offshore it was sucking wind into NYC from the west, northwest

46. Because without a date, it told us nothing about where the smoke plume...
Edited on Fri Sep-11-09 01:47 PM by SidDithers
was going immediately after the towers were hit. I didn't want to confuse the issue, by posting irrelevant data.

(FWIW, the sat pic showed the smoke plume heading out over New Jersey, so it was almost certainly taken on another date, when the winds were blowing in a different direction)

Where they took people's videos, 911 calls, radio air play, etc and put it into a real-time play by play. It's beautifully done, chilling.

I looked it up, it's called "102 Minutes that Changed America".

44. They're probably showing it tonight
I really recommend it. There are some of the video clips on their website, but the whole movie, it's just...horrifying really.

The only other documentary I've seen was the one that those French film-makers were doing already when 9/11 happened. They were filming a firehouse and followed them into the towers after they were hit. It was graphic, you could hear the bodies of people landing after they jumped and it showed people jumping as well.

51. Yes, it was
I really didn't want to watch this last year. I really didn't, I didn't want to cry and be upset and remember how scared I was and I lived in Las Colinas at the time. I didn't watch the first run through, I watched the repeat. And it made me cry and I was horrified and I felt so bad for those people, the ones that died and the people taping this and the people being taped. I just cannot imagine what it was like in that city, and at one point the couple in SoHo, you hear the mom or dad telling their child to go back into their bedroom. It was just heart breaking. I don't know if I'm going to watch it tonight or not.

... that clearly do not show a 757 ... although difficult to say exactly what it is you're looking at in those pics, that, if I recall, had been released prior to the 'big claim' of releasing them, and each had the wrong date, Sept 12th, in the lower frame.

18. The jet was targeted to make the building fall (Bush Cheney planning)
The way it slices through the corner of the building shows that it seemed to be TRYING ta make the building topple and kill far more people.

I believe that this was TREASON at the highest levels.

The war in Afghanistan is all a lie.

If Obama believes this lie, he is either a fool, ignorant, or complicit.

I hope it is one of the first two options.

26. The part presuming 'they' wanted a higher # killed ...
Basically I agree with you. However, try looking at it from this perspective:

had the perps actually wanted a significantly higher body count, it was common knowledge that the buildings would have had thousands more inside by later in the day. Instead, the exact opposite was chosen, reducing that number.

Food for thought.

35. I think that they thought that the buildings would either stand or topple over
After the WTC bombing in the '90s, I recall discussing with someone working at Wall and Broad whether the nearest tower would reach that far if it fell over.

One's intution would be that a tower would fall over (all those years of playing with blocks), or that it would catch on fire (the B-25 collision with the Empire State Building and movies like Towering Inferno).

In don't think that anyone expected that the upper floors of the buildings would pancake down and result in shearing of joists form the periphery of the building, leading to a total collapse. But of course, that's what happened to the towers due to their design with a strong peripheral tube and a strong central core.

55. No one expected the building to collapse
You are exactly right. It was one of the best-engineered skyscrapers that America ever built.

It's amazing to watch a damaged section of several stories pile drive through 70+ undamaged stories of structural steel as if it didn't exist. It was amazing to see all of that steel (the 47 massive inner columns and the 244 peripheral columns) simply fail altogether at once. Even when the top of the South Tower tipped over it didn't keep tipping but vanished into a cloud of dust and fell straight down.

As the chief engineer John Skilling said in 1964: "Live loads on these columns can be increased more than 2,000% before failure occurs."

Many, many people were astonished to see the buildings fall like that, particularly since they had different degrees of asymmetrical damage.

56. Remember that the Bush and Bin Laden families have been friends/business partners for over 40 years
Salem Bin Laden, Osama's late brother was the main investor in shrub's first oil company.

So I tend to think the attack itself was legit but arranged.

Also remember that a mysterious elevator company who had no previous jobs or any since, had a contract to remodel the elevators in the towers They had elevators closed for repair for 18 months before the attack. Plenty of time to access the mechanical crawl space between each floors and wire the towers for demolition.

Buildings don't pancake at near free fall speed without lots of help.
And the super thermite residue that has been identified in the dust and fragments as well as molten steel that lingered for months pretty much proves that theory.

Bush and Cheney got what they wanted : an excuse for war
Bin Laden got what he wanted: a recruitment tool par excellence

They must not get away with this mass murder and the mass murder in Iraq/ Afghanistan

If I remember correctly, didn't security make an announcement telling workers in that second tower that all was fine and they should not evacuate and/or return to their work area?
How many could have made it below the inpact area and possibly been able to get out... :-(
I never understood that part...a building within spitting distance is in a ball of flames and you tell the workers in the second building to just hang tight???????????????

61. yes, after the first plane hit WTC1
Edited on Fri Sep-11-09 08:42 PM by musette_sf
there were announcements that people in WTC2 should stay in place and not evacuate, and that those who had evacuated should go back to their offices.

the assumption was that the event was over, and that people evacuating from a building not affected would hinder the evacuation process of WTC1.

i do think it was a logical assumption, for about 17 minutes.

**

in 2005, i was working on Post St in SF, when a huge explosion right outside made the building rock.

having had family working at the WTC complex who left right away on 9/11/01, i can tell you i didn't wait to find out what it was. i was out of the building and on BART within 10 minutes (i figured if it was really bad i had better get on BART before they shut it down.)

http://www.sfgate.com/flat/archive/2005/08/19/chronicle/archive/2005/08/19/BAsfexplosion19.html

after the WTC, i was never going to second guess huge explosions right outside my window.

i could always work at home if it was ultimately not a disaster, but i know that sometimes you don't get a second guess.
