They're allowing right wing POLITICS to affect their decisions. They're either cowards or complicit. Neither one is good. And therein lies, perhaps, the making of a nascent campaign to unseat them next go-round.

2. Did you see what happened in Montana?
A bunch of Republicans quit the Republican Party, stating that it had been taken over by "phony Republicans."

I suspect that kind of infiltration is taking place all over the United States these days.

one I hoped would get more play. Ike did warn against similar infiltration, years ago, and I wish we and others would make something of this stuff. (As in, prevent dems etc from dumping on e/o as reps want, and encourage more noise about such events as Montana.)

3. It's a start.
But most school boards are filled by people who ran because no one else wanted to. It's a thankless job. But we certainly could use more progressives.

5. Actually, local school boards were (are?) targets for the kristofascist storm troopers
Their churches and rat fuckers like Ralph Reed pushed this a while back. Maybe still are (unless Reed is still too busy screwing native people.

6. Most terms are 4 years.
They come and go in waves. In over 20 years, I've seen several generations. Right now our board is decent, if not terribly brave.

8. The local school boards are how ideologues and wannabe social engineers inflect our schools.
Flame me, but IMO that would be an argument for a more centralized and technocratic control of the school system.
