Most children today are very savvy ...and smart
If you tell them that they cannot do something, that only makes them want to do it more. If you tell them they cannot see something or hear something, that only makes them want to see or hear it more. That is why this latest right-wing conspiracy theory about Obama's speech to school children will backfire into their faces. Children know what is happening and they will interpret it for what it really is, fear or racism or both.

As someone stated, it makes one wonder if the parents are actually capable of raising their children? This latest nonsense may prove their point? Those that threaten to keep their children home or threaten the schools that might show the President's speech, are doing no favors for their children. But, all ignorance aside, they are doing no favors for their Party or their cause, either.

1. They're also every bit as naive and possessed of the false sense of invulnerability
That they have always had.

As someone stated, it makes one wonder if the parents are actually capable of raising their children?

I was taught that the proper goal of parents is to raise adults, not big children.

2. I'd like to hear from some high school students or their parents.

Depending on age, a student could be blocked from watching that speech now and be eligible to vote in the next election, or in 3 years.

Or, a high school AP civics/government teacher could find restrictions on using the event in the classroom....

Sad, incredible moment in time. :banghead:

3. I think it is great -- this has generated huge publicity for Obama's speech
Better than the White House could have dreamed of.

Students are sure to watch it on the Internet, if not in the classroom.

5. The reason most of these right wing nut jobs, don't want their children
hearing Pres. Obama talk, is because then the kids will know their parents are "bat-shit" crazy

10. You have a point there.
If parents are saying, "President Obama/government wants to control you" doesn't that present all CONTROL as evil? And who amongst us are most interested in CONTROLLING children the most but "parents"? Do you think children notice this contradiction?

DING! DING! DING! EVERYBODY: I have just figured out WHY America is so utterly fucked-up!!! A significant minority of the population is raising their children telling them that "control" is bad/evil - AND - they are FAILING in helping children to develop their own internal controls, ergo parents, teachers, community, the future . . . we're all screwed because the locus of the control has to always be external, which makes the message "control is bad" that MUCH stronger!! Don't think about this too much!

6. 10. How many kids will forge notes opting out of the Obama Speech to cut class?
When I first heard about that I thought to myself that it was the perfect opportunity for some crafty little kid to forge a note or permission slip about Obama's speech. I myself would pepper it with buzz words and phrases such as "socialist agenda" " Glenn Beck said.." The beauty ofit you could use language on a fourth grade reading level and it would still seem authentic

8. Any kind of prediction of what will occur with children is speculation.
The real question is "What will the Democrats response be to the Republicans and their big business masters?". It is becoming more clear that they will stop at nothing to promote their agenda of ignorance, hate and violence.

It seem to me the decks are stacked against our President Obama and therefore against us. For us to succeed we will have to prevent those who are easily led from becoming victims of the Republicans. It is as if the argument the South made is making a comeback, the civil war is being re-fought on a larger scale, only now the fight isn't to maintain the enslavement of a single race, it is to enslave us all.

11. I would agree with what you said
except that I believe that is the continuation of an age old struggle. The struggle between the haves and have-nots. Race is just another side battle in this long term war.

9. My parents are uber conservative
Three sisters in my family; two are liberal, one is uber conservative.

This may backfire on the idiots who don't want their children to hear Obama.
