1. Ugh! Amazon's top 10 Political books list is awful.
It looks like a tea-bagger's wet dream. Beck at #1, Malkin at #2? Shoot me now.

4. No, they know how to buy from Amazon
They never actually read the books they buy. They simply do what they are told to do.

5. ...And right-wing "concerns" snap up large orders of these books.
I don't know if you saw some of the numbers leaked for Coultergeist's last book, but IIRC, a large portion of the sales were institutional rather than individual.

Things that make you go "hmmm."

7. And unfortunately places like Costco sell Beck's and Malkin's book, but not Swanson's...
Edited on Tue Sep-01-09 02:24 PM by cascadiance
Perhaps they've added it recently, but I haven't seen it when checking for books by him or other books by liberal authors. Naomi Klein had the same problem with "The Shock Doctrine", which I think I only saw in paperback there on one or two occasions buried on the shelves there.

I think we should be also heavily writing Costco management to remind them that we progressives form a very sizable chunk of their customer base, and that our interests aren't being served like the wingnuts' are. Tell them to start getting some balance in their offerings to put in Swanson's book as well at their stores.

Remind them of what happens if corporate management alienates people like us with the example of what's happening to Whole Foods and their CEO now.

Perhaps at the same time mention that you aren't buying their Bolthouse Farm products as well to amplify your concern about some of their practices...

8. Costco often sets up displays from local vendors.

9. Yeah, it would have been nice to have Thom Hartmann introduce his new book at some Costco's here

in Portland where he lives. They have the biggest Costco in the U.S. at Hillsboro which wouldn't have been a bad place to have one, or some place closer to the center of town. We were able to see him speak and sign his books a month ago at the Bagdad Theatre here though, the same week that Ed Schultz spoke at the same venue. I guess for David Swanson, Costco should have something in the Charlottesville area in Virginia for him...

Perhaps Costco figures us Portland liberals tend to go to Powell's Bookstore instead to get our books...

before the layoffs took their toll earlier this year. Just down the street from that Costco... Takes a little longer now to drive over there to get gas now.
