35,000 acres..

It's mostly uninhabited so far, but as a size reference, Miami would be a goner..:(

Most of our city's equipment left to help out, so here's hoping we (or other communities) do have any fires :scared:

16. ok ok... I did the math. Calculated 796 square miles: Circum^2/(4*pi)
Edited on Sun Aug-30-09 07:35 PM by Liberal_in_LA
based on 100 circ.

Seems way too high. Maybe the newsperson mispoke when they said 110+ circ/. or maybe they are referring to the fire danger area

6. I read OCFA sent up some help.
I think just 24 deputies. I'm sure all cities are scared to lose personnel with the heat wave. The last fire that caused voluntary evacuations for us was arson, so I'm hoping everyone is on high alert looking for any sick person wanting to wreak havoc.

9. Oh my.....
 My sister and b-i-l lived in Pasadena (while we lived in Oceanside). We are all back East now. This is horrible. I know some of my favorite hiking spots in the Angeles are burned to a crisp.

15. Dammit.. this keyboard cannot read my mind.. I DID mean hope we do NOT have any fires
every fire truck we have (well probably not ALL) went screaming down the street behind us this morning about 2 AM..all headed for the freeway.. There must have been about 10 of them all "convoyed" & on their way. We all share resources..:)

17. Again tonight, we went down the street to watch the fires.
There are more small spots of flames, but the huge burning areas are not on our side of the mountain. We see a lot of smoke from the northern side.
