A Sailor's Song
My father was the sailor for whom I wrote this some twenty years ago. At his request I read it at his memorial service, and I offer it now to honor the memory of Ted Kennedy.

A Sailor's Song

When I set sail for a distant star,
When the moon on the water is bright,
I know that the Master has come aboard
For the winds and the currents are right.

As I set my course by the lights He has set
In that deep, dark sky up above,
The sails take their fill of the Master's breath
And I sail on the sea of His love.

Though the distance be far and the day be long
My small craft still breaks through the foam.
And the Master smiles as His hand guides the way
To the haven lights of home.

Because of the Master my heart is at peace
As I sail on the ocean of time.
And the voyage I make is joyous because
His hand's on the tiller with mine.

Smooth sailing, Teddy. And fair winds.

1. If that hasn't already been set to music, it ought to be. It's gorgeous as well as heartfelt.
Thanks, madamesilverspurs.
