2. The irony, the irony -
Dominic Dunne was unsurpassed in his hatred for the Kennedy family. He loathed them.

And now he dies on the same day as Teddy, who is the only one the world will notice.

Oh, the irony, the irony..................................

3. I didn't know that ...... why on earth did he hate the Kennedy
family? I always kind of like Dominic Dunne, but do only know him from his coverage of the big court cases and the loss of his daughter.

4. Dominic hated Teddy because of Chappaquiddick
He thinks the Kennedy's used the power of their family name to cover up the death.

He's wrong. But victim's rights advocates rarely care about falsely accusing people.

8. Remember what he did to Gary Condit?
And he got sued for it. Handily sued, which was settled out of court and sealed.

He didn't quite shoot his mouth off as much as that............................

6. Hated Joe Kennedy and was in a conflict with Robert Kennedy Jr. over the
Skakel murder/conviction of Kennedy's first cousin. Undoubtedly more....

7. Oh, god, did he hate them!
I met him during the Smith rape trial in Florida. My writing partner was covering the trial for a newspaper, and invited me to down to hang out with her. It was a riot. The nights after the days in court were wild - journalists gone insane. Plus, the weather was nice, it was all expense account, and it was a big story, remember?

Dunne was there, all over the place. Nice enough guy, but he never stopped talking. Told some great stories, but he just went on and on, and when you turned the subject to the Kennedy family, he went ballistic. Despised them all, blamed the rape charge on Teddy, who he regarded as a drunk and a bum.

I think it was jealousy, plain and simple Irish jealousy. Lace-curtain versus shanty, maybe? He didn't have a nice thing to say about any of the Kennedys, even the dead ones. Loved Jackie, though, and thought her son and daughter were terrific.

He was mostly a socialite suck-up, who did whatever he had to do to be included in the comings and goings of the filthy rich. Don't forget that Dunne was the guy who published a bunch of lies about Gary Condit in that murder case, and when Condit sued him, Dunne settled for a big fat amount and made sure the records were sealed.

Bit of a bully, but he wrote some thoroughly enjoyable novels, and his Vanity Fair column was an idiot's delight. I enjoyed it....................

13. I think there was a lot of misplaced anger and grief.
He took his victim's rights advocacy to some dark places.

19. Lace curtain versus shanty...
I think you nailed it. Seems he was always railing against the rich and famous when he felt they were getting away with something because they were rich and/or famous. But he never shied away from sucking up to them, did he? He seemed to me to be a bit of a user himself. Multi-faceted irony on this one.

18. He's also the one who championed the trial of Michael Skakel (a Kennedy),
for the 1975 murder of Martha Moxley.

I still don't understand how the jury could find him guilt without a reasonable doubt in that trial. I think he is innocent.

10. His daughter was murdered
His daughter Dominique was murdered in 1982 at the age of 22. She was the victim of domestic violence. The man who killed her spent only 4 1/2 years in prison. Subsequently Dominick Dunne was obsessed not only with seeking justice for his daughter but for seeking justice for other murder victims.

15. One can't blame him for that, regardless of his other faults.
What happened in her case was an outrage against all notions of justice.

16. On the bright side he won't be on TV gossipping about the Kennedies!
I always found him to be a cross between a ghoul and a vulture who made a living off of celebrity deaths and tragedies.
