Need DU research help. Obama and money for chilren 0-5

Looking for any legislation geared towards "Early childhood development". Not "medical money"..(not sure of the distinction"

Trying to convince a friend that she's really a liberal. She's 90% there. If I can prove the President is working to help young children she's going to change parties...

Thanks in advance.

1. self research works! From whitehouse.gov
Ten days after taking office, the President established a White House Task Force on Middle Class Working Families, led by Vice President Biden. The Task Force is focused on raising the living standards of middle-class, working families across America.

* To help working mothers and fathers obtain quality child care, the Act includes an additional $2 billion for the Child Care and Development Block Grant, $1 billion for Head Start, and $1.1 billion for Early Head Start.
* To fight hunger, the Act includes a $20 billion increase for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), formerly known as Food Stamps, as well as funding for food banks and the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC).

Invest in Education

President Obama is committed to providing every child access to a complete and competitive education, from cradle through career. First, the President supports a seamless and comprehensive set of services and support for our youngest children, from birth through age 5. Next, President Obama will reform and invest in K-12 education so that America’s public schools deliver a 21st Century education that prepares all children for success in the new global workplace. Finally, President Obama is committed to ensuring that America will regain its lost ground and have the highest proportion of students graduating from college in the world by 2020.

Promote Work-family Balance

Millions of women and men face the challenge of trying to balance the demands of their jobs and the needs of their families. Too often, caring for a child or an aging parent puts a strain on a career or even leads to job loss. President Obama believes we need flexible work policies, such as paid sick leave, so that working women and men do not have to choose between their jobs and meeting the needs of their families.

The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act invested heavily in education both as a way to provide jobs now and lay the foundation for long-term prosperity.

* The Act includes $5 billion for early learning programs, including Head Start, Early Head Start, child care, and programs for children with special needs.

2. I know people like her too.
Liberal on most issues but just can't make the step to take on the title. I think it has a lot to do with years of RW propaganda making 'liberal' and 'Democrat' dirty words. Just the fact that you wear those titles proudly is a good example and may give her the impetus to embrace it. Keep up the good work!

3. Thanks

My sister is this way. Only votes Republican cause of the abortion issue.

I asked what exactly had the Republicans done to stop it? They've been in power for 12 years...and she couldn't answer.

So I said "They would be dead without this issue, it keeps people like you voting for them. Democrats know we can't eliminate abortion even if it's illegal, so we work to reduce it. We provide programs to help single mothers. Republicans consistently try and kill those programs. So who's helping here and who is actually causing more abortion? Republicans who take away a single mothers choice. Choice of care AFTER the baby is born. So a single mother takes another route which she may perceive as more convenient."

She whispered in my ear when we hugged goodbye "I think I'm a liberal". It was a beautiful moment.
