5. Not in my opinion - I'd say Dems have been way too patient...
The voters have been way too patient with Blue Dogs, and the prez has been way too patient with Blue Dogs and Republicans ~ enough of that.

13. I agree with you on that. There has been far too much of that, but it was also fair
to give a chance to all Repbulicans. Some of them do not like what is going on in their party right now and are looking for a way to side with the Democrats and the administration. I believe there will be some defectors on healthcare. But even if there isn't, the Dems should say to hell with bipartisanship at this point.

Poor Mr. Ed :( Wilbur's corporate insurance plan wouldn't accept him because of his "pre-existing" hoof in mouth disease.

9. "Be patient and help fix it"
is a euphemism for "shut up unless you're cheering" the way it's usually used around here. So, holding his feet to the fire in most cases would be a third choice.

and Senators. I've gone to DC and advocated for health reform.

What have you done?

26. Yes it is.
I used to lobby all my reps at the state and national level too back when I was still mobile. At this point I write letters with the best of 'em.

Do you think because you've spoken to your reps that invalidates anyone else's opinions? Get a life. Just because you've got hero worship in your eyes doesn't mean anyone else needs to share it. A lot of us, and more every day, are getting very disillusioned with the shit Obama is passing off as a supposed commitment to progressive politics.

He has broken his promise to post all legislation to the web before signing
He has broken his promise to make his administration more transparent, instead embracing Bush secrecy once he got into office.
He has broken his promise to revise NAFTA and Free Trade, instead embracing them once he got into office.
He has broken his promises to the LGBT community, embracing homophobes and giving them national platforms from which to speak, not endorsing legislation to overturn DOMA, not issuing an executive order halting DADT and the purge of LGBT soldiers, and his his DoJ had to be shamed publicly about using homophobic language in a brief.
He has broken his promises about pushing environmental standards without the approval of corporations.
He has broken his promises about halting both rendition and torture.
He has broken his promises about restoring the rule of law, instead sticking with plans to use military tribunals even though extra-judicial tribunals are forbidden by the Geneva conventions.

How much longer does this list of broken promises have to be before people wake up?

32. What does that mean?
This is a site for Democrats, and protecting the environment, improving transparency in the government, ending torture, etc. are all policies that the majority of democrats support.

Just because one Democratic president FAILS to keep his promises doesn't mean anything about people posting here.

If you are one of those fools that thinks you have to be blindly loyal to the president to be a member of the party then I suggest you have a hell of a lot you need to learn.

45. I am sick of that "feet to the fire" phrase
It's a very negative sounding phrase.

Why is there any right to expect any particular result from them? They have to agree to it all. If you really worked to elect Obama you knew it was to elect a relatively moderate candidate.

They aren't like children or employees. Both branches have their own power. Politics requires compromise and always will.

They accepted 100 republican amendments in exchange for not one single republican vote on the health care bill. And yet, are they removing the republican amendments and going back to the original proposals for universal health care and single payer? No!

Our party keeps giving in over and over and over again. 100 times just regarding health care so far. Obama is negotiating behind closed doors with the corporations making special deals.

It would be really nice if we COULD hold his heals to the fire and get him to act progressive. But he's not a progressive. He's a moderate pro-corporate democrat, and always was. That's why they let him get traction to get into office, and that's why he's paying back all the corporate backers now that he's in office. That's why his first major initiative was to give trillions to wall street without any oversight. That's why he's got Goldman Sachs people running the Dept of the Treasury.

It's a damned shame that so many democrats are so easily fooled into the hero worship.

24. there was never a proposal for single payer.
never. nor was there a promise. the president, like most people, would like to have a single, simple plan. but what we would like to have and what is possible are not the same thing. he is a fierce pragmatist, as most of us who worked for him knew. and single payer is just not pragmatic.
for every complex problem there is a solution that is simple, appealing and wrong. single payer is one. people who are insured now and need to stay that way are not going to be guinea pigs.

17. I like this.
Rome wasn't built in a day.

I can say that because I'm building a house. And it has been two years, and I have only started to actually build anything. Planning, sandbagging, friction, quicksand, changes, and every other thing that takes time.

And politics is like building a house while the neighbor is tugging you the other direction, and while vandals like Rove and Cheney keep lighting it on fire.

19. I think there are other choices.
One can loudly voice their opinion and push issues they care about. One can even criticize the President once in a while. Doing nothing and going solely on faith is, in my opinion, a fool's path.

I always thought politics was about people and the greater good not about personalities, national slogans and hero worship.

I'd say at the core of your well-intentioned post is a very un-democratic idea. Patient is the last thing we should be at the moment.

30. This isn't about adoration,it's about people whining and complaining that things aren't getting done
When the reality is, things *are* getting done and there is a great deal of work to do.

And yet, the ones whining and complaining the most around here are the last ones to do anything about what's not getting done.

33. How the fuck do you know who's the first or last to do anything?
There are people here who have been activists for decades. There are people here who are doing as much or more than you on the issue(s) of their choice.

You're totally making that up just so you can keep smearing anyone who disagrees with you. And because you're making it us, you are the one that comes across as whining.

You whine every time someone dares to criticize Obama.

Yes things are getting done. Things like closed door meetings with insurance companies to give them private deals. And closed door meetings with wall street reps about what regulations can be put in place that will placate the public without upsetting the big wall street firms. What isn't happening is a lot of the stuff Obama promised during his campaign would happen.
