11. Shelby Foote

I watched civil war historian and author Shelby Foote on C-SPAN one day. It may have been C-Span2 book notes. He was talking about one of his books, I think it was Shilo.
Then he talked about people that go around with the Confederate flag on their hats or pickup trucks. He said something like, they are a bunch of yayhoos that should have never been born to see it fly.
I saw a couple local high school kids that had a Confederate flag on a pole in the back of their truck. They were wearing football jerseys and it's my old high school and I played three years on the team in the 70's. I know the athletic director and called him up and complained. I told him that as far as I was concerned it wasn't much different from flying a Nazi flag.
He said he'd find out who it was and chew their asses.

It's been floating around DU for a while, but it's worth seeing all over again. I think it even gave a couple of DUers some creative ideas they posted about going to one of these town halls and hanging out with the crowd outside the venue. I'm sorry I don't have a link to show you.

The one thing about DU is that things move too quickly sometimes. I often think that some truly worthwhile posts sink too fast for most DUers to get the benefits. It's a price we pay.
