High school attack: Teenager with 10 pipe bombs, a chainsaw, and a 2ft sword
SAN MATEO, CA (KGO) -- Hundreds of worried parents in San Mateo rushed to pick up their children Monday morning after an explosion rocked Hillsdale High School.

Police arrested former Hillsdale student Alex Youshock after two of the bombs went off in an empty hallway at Hillsdale High. No one was hurt. Officers had to cut eight bombs off of the 17-year-old before they could take him into custody. They got him because three teachers threw themselves onto him and held him.

"The juvenile suspect arrived on campus right at about 8 o'clock at the start of the school day. The suspect possessed 10 explosive devices, homemade pipe bombs, a chain saw and a sword approximately 2 feet in length. The pipe bombs were attached to a tactical vest that the suspect was wearing," San Mateo Police Chief Susan Manheimer said.

The suspect detonated two pipe bombs in a hallway near the library...

2. According to some at DU
they were in the wrong. A large percentage of Americans seems to think it is not their job to deal with a criminal when confronted with one.

7. You obviously missed the last few threads
in which a person took down a criminal. It was non-stop attacks on the person who restrained them. Apparently a large number of people believe only the cops have the right to do anything.

32. And when the cops do
there is criticism there, too. Can't win sometimes, no matter what you do.

Good for the teacher. Had he waited for the cops, it might have been too late.

This kid is facing some serious prosecution, as he should be.

16. Why are you using the Fox Technique of "SOME SAY" ?
Don't you have any real evidence or facts?

31. Wow you must not read much around here huh?
Here are about 100 posts as examples for you. Tons of candy asses with excuses like "oh gee he might have gotten hurt so he shouldn't have done anything"

34. Why do you put an equal importance to defending bank money as to defending children's lives?
Edited on Thu Aug-27-09 12:48 AM by slampoet
There aren't even children printed on those dollar bills.

27. So right. I chased a punk to the police after he purposely tried to cause a pileup
The police called me an american terrorist. He said that he could throw me into Guantanamo. He referenced the patriot act. I laughed in his face. I told them that they were emboldening him. and that next time he would kill someone. They let him leave andd kept me there. So I wouldnt beat his punk ass.

35. It depends on what type of criminal you are talking about
If their intent is to take property, property is replaceable and there is no sense in anybody getting hurt or killed over it. If their intent is to hurt other people then yes it is necessary to deal with said criminal.

Physically restrained a guy who has eight bombs attached to himself. We are left to wonder just how many children's lives they must have saved.

13. THIS is why we should make bombs, especially conceal carry ones, illegal
Once we do that, people will obey the law and not use them in bad ways.

San Mateo is a community that tries to do right by its teens, but some people slip down the cracks. :( I work with this age group in San Mateo and stories like his are heartbreaking.
