Dennis Miller is tired of all of the Hitler comparisons!!!
Edited on Tue Aug-25-09 02:59 AM by Adenoid_Hynkel
but only when they're made by anonymous "liberals" in his cocktail party circuit and directed at Republicans:

From his Sept. 13, 2003 interview with The American Enterprise Online, when he was trying to explain away his overnight switch to hard-right politics:

Also, when I kept hearing liberals equating Giuliani with Hitler—that’s when I really left the reservation. Even before 9/11, I’d travel to New York and say, “Wow, this city certainly seems to be running better.” Giuliani is the kind of leader I admire. When it’s five degrees below zero and you arrest somebody to get him inside and off the street—that’s not something Hitler would do. It made me realize that I was with the wrong group if that’s what Hitler looked like to them.

From the New York Times in january of 2004, prior to the launch of one of his many canceled TV shows:

"People say I've slid to the right," Mr. Miller said in his office at the NBC Studios in Burbank, speaking in his rat-a-tat-tat style. "Well, can you blame me? One of the biggest malfeasances of the left right now is the mislabeling of Hitler. Quit saying this guy is Hitler," he said, referring to Mr. Bush. "Hitler is Hitler. That's the quintessential evil in the history of the universe, and we're throwing it around on MoveOn.org to win a contest. That's grotesque to me.".

http://www.nytimes.com/2004/01/15/arts/television/15MILL.html

and on Leno, he even called for violence (to giggles from Jay, as i recall):
"If you're in a peace march and the guy next to you has a sign that says Bush is Hitler, forget the peace thing for a second and beat his ass, because he is not Hitler."

http://politicalhumor.about.com/library/bldennismiller_rant.htm

Can we expect this asshole to call his new wingnut friends on their Nazi rhetoric today?
And will Dennis be doing a quick-change with his entire ideology again?

13. Was he ever funny to begin with?
When he was with SNL he had someone else writing his material and still he didn't deliver it all that well. Every time I've seen him do standup he simply steals his material from other comedians and recycles it (and still he doesn't deliver it all that well). He's always been a 3rd rate schmuck.

10. about the only time he was funny was on Weekend Update ...
Long before he went wingnut, I went to see him in Cleveland. Opening act, Rita Rudner.

Miller: WAYYYYYYYY too laced with "F*ck", the biggest laughs from his jokes were from himself. Funny thing is, Miller can alienate his target audience quite well just by being himself. The humorous references he tries to use are way over the heads of his listeners ... witness the fact that he was doing something like quoting Voltaire on Monday Night Football ...

Rudner was actually more entertaining.

4. I was living in Europe at the time and...
...didn't know who Miller was. Hell, I'm still catching up on Bill Hicks (brilliant, brilliant man)! I've heard from many liberal friends that Miller had a quick wit and a wonderful way with words that would make you laugh until it hurt. After 9/11 he went in the other direction, which could also explain his current lack of popularity. I only know him from Fuck News and have never found him funny. He's too contrived, and rightwing humour leaves me cold.

7. I can't speak from experience.
I could probably look him up on YouTube and view his earlier material, but I've never been inclined to do so. To tell you the truth, the thought has never occurred to me until now. Alas, I've more important things to do tonight. I've got to remove my bellybutton lint!

9. he still has that quick wit
to me one of the litmus tests for a close minded partisan is if they can't find humor in those who are on the OTHER side.

iow, a repub who can't find humor in any liberal comics/comedy fails the test.

ditto for a dem in the same situation.

the exact same people who found miller funny in the past all of a sudden lost their taste merely because his POLITICS changed. his style of humor hasn't.

i have copies of franken's books right next to "give war a chance". the former is a humorous book by a leftie and the latter a humorous book by a rightie.

actually, pj orourke is an excellent litmus test. any leftie who can't find humor in his works either doesn't have a sense of humor, or is a close minded partisan.

and i know some people like that.

i feel the same way about lily thomlin. i know she is like all smart and well respected as a comedian, etc. but i just NEVER found her funny.

i am referring to the (quite numerous) people who found him hilarious when he was a lib, and totally unfunny now. heck, i have people like that in my family. it's hardly a rare thang.

32. Anyone that finds anything written by P. J. O'Rourke funny after he left
National Lampoon, would laugh at wallpaper.

And Dennis Miller was always a pompous ass that thought more highly of himself than anyone else ever did. Obscure quotes and vague historical references woven into a commentary do not a smart person make.

43. two points
1) i think yer nuts on pj orourke. give war a chance, and all the trouble in the world are two of the funniest books ever written. i think the man is simply hilarious.
2)i agree that sometimes miller goes into obscure reference mode just for the heck of it, and it can get a little old. but he has also done some (imo) hilarious standup. i have always thought him funny. i liked him LEAST on SNL.

35. PJ O'Rourke is actually likeable
Miller, not so much. I remember reading PJ's stuff from National Lampoon and some of it was damned funny. It was good adolescent fun, if a little un-PC by today's standards. But PJ seems more like a guy you could have a beer with and talk politics without it turning into a slugfest.
I used to appreciate Miller's obscure references, being a gifted child, I actually got most of them. But he doesn't strike me as a friendly kind of guy. He also seemed like the kind of guy that would try to steal your girlfriend.
Just my 2 cents.

5. Ahhh.. Dennis the Libertarian asshole
Man, If there is one guy that is even more unwatchable its this loudmouth dipshit! I once knew a guy that was about as smart as a bag of ball peen hammers. He used to read the dictionary to look up big words to use to try to impress people, you know, redundant words that were not in the average persons vocabulary, and people would only go "Whaaa?" when he used them. He never impressed anybody, because we all knew he was a half wit with the IQ of a houseplant. Miller is "THAT GUY" But... he fits well on faux "news" because he is one of them,,, a total smeghead! I would love to stuff a watermelon in his big yap and watch him choke on it, because that's the only thing that would fit in his yammering craw! Piss on him, and everybody that looks like him... and... he was never funny.... at all! As amatter of fact, when he was on SNL, I'd usually change the channel because I wanted to keep my TV, and seeing him on my screen only wanted me to smash the damn thing! EEEWWWW!

It's unnecessarily inflammatory and inaccurate. Aside from ineffective in winning supporters to either side of the issue.

and Nugent seem to be all from another universe. They seem to really believe that America is some type of fantasy land that they have dreamed up in their minds.

They seem to think that all Americans see America as they do,their thoughts and ideas about america are in another time and place.

People who make their money making fun of others are sometimes really nice people, but with Miller, what you see is what you get. Eeeeewwwww, gross.

I guess he's really in love with Hitler and thinks *ush doesn't measure up. So in a way he does have a point.
