Let's play a Lightening Round of the game "Critical Thinking".
You all remember Zogby, right? Remember those bullshit "interactive" polls that got used to hype this loser or that back during pre-election season?

Well ....... they remain in business. Here is their latest, unedited:

Obama’s Job Approval Hits New Low
August 21st, 2009

According to Zogby’s most recent interactive survey results, President Barack Obama’s job approval rating has dropped to a record low of 45% among likely voters nationwide. About 51% of the respondents disapprove of his job as president.

Groups that are more likely to approve of his job as president are Democrats (84%), females (54%), African Americans (84%), liberals (94%), 18-to-29 year olds (57%), respondents who do NOT consider themselves members of the investor class (54%), and those who never shop at Wal-Mart (67%).

Groups that are more likely to disapprove of his job as president are Republicans (91%), males (60%), conservatives (95%), respondents who are married (59%), members of the investor class (65%), those who attend religious services at least once a week (63%), and those who shop at Wal-Mart every month (61%).

In another question, where respondents were asked “how would you rate Barack Obama’s job as president — excellent, good, fair or poor?”, 16% of the sample chose “Excellent”, 27% “Good”,11% “Fair” and 45% “Poor”. Within Democrats, 80% chose “Excellent” or “Good”, compared to only 7% of Republicans. Among those unaffiliated to either of the major parties, 35% rated the President’s job performance as “Excellent” or “Good”.

“None of these numbers looks counter-intuitive to me. Gallup, NBC, and Pew all have Obama at record lows. Rasmussen also shows low approval. Things are volatile out there and news travels fast. There is a lot of anxiety over healthcare,” said Zogby International President and CEO John Zogby. “The President let it get away from him and voters are scared right now. They are experiencing sacrifice overload and feel more threatened than empowered. The President is being forced to play defense and he is much better when he is in possession of the ball. But do not underestimate Obama. Last August he was toast.”

Now what's wrong with this? What doesn't quite add up? What fails to pass the smell test? What sets off your bullshit detectors?

If none of the above happens for you, what do you make of this?

(In my view, when looking at the demographics they cite, it seems to me that repubicans and other right wing crazies are monumentally oversampled. Actually, since this in online and any moron can choose to reply, "oversample" is probably the wrong word .... but you get the idea.)

1. 61% Shop At Wal-Mart Every Time, 67% Never Shop At Wal-Mart?
I'm sure they really mean 67% of those who never shop at W/M vs 61% of those who do. Still ....

How can 51% disapprove if 55% approve? (Excellent + good + fair)

2. It stinks because GOPs are now only 28% or so of the population
but it looks like they've been weighted to at least 40%.

That's why this poll stinks.

3. is this where we get to be critical of *other* people's thinking? wonderful!
my read is that it means that no-less than a couple things are going on, primary of which may well be that (and we do it here alll the time ala *DU THIS ONLINE POLL STAT!!*): online polls are not all that dissimilar, if you will, to townhall.com buying coulter's fucking books in bulk and giving them away as perks to whomever attends sophistry personified = they get to look all uber-entrepreneurial and the harpie gets her little creative writing project to - blip - up under the grey lady's kitchen apron in some elite/effete section over fresh squeezed oj overlooking cent park in last night's makeup better make that 3 days worth of yada-yada shit-talk on a circuit somewhere; but some of the other, well...

there is no doubt in my mind that some feel apathy to be a virtue in response to unpleasant things and so republicans are not so oversampled as they are more busy with the publication of their thoughts and opinions however strange they may be while dems...

are left to wonder why too many matters are thus and so; into that breach steps some of the numbers we see in this longitudinal study of zogby's but that i think is key: we won...ok...is it over? no. it is not a 50yd dash it is a marathon and there is a clock involved and oh btw it is tic-tock tic-tock ticking

dems should have seen this coming, dems need to get busier and not just us here but dc dem leaders need to step-up, start leading and stop playing to the mirror-mirror-on-the-wall - play to the bottom fucking line and take it to the mat if that is what is in the future
