Imus Radiothon gets funds despite furor
NEW YORK - Don Imus raised nearly $1 million in the first five hours of his annual radio charity fundraiser Thursday, but it was only by voice — MSNBC pulled the plug on his talk show's television simulcast amid the uproar over his racial slur.

"This may be our last Radiothon, so we need to raise about $100 million," Imus said at the start of the event, which has raised more than $40 million since 1990.

Imus acknowledged again that his remarks a week ago about the Rutgers women's basketball team had been "really stupid."...

Tony Gonzalez, supervisor of the Radiothon phone bank, said volunteers were getting about 200 more pledges per hour than they did last year, and most callers were expressing support for Imus...

2. Imus can spend all his free time now on his ranch doing charity work.
Thank goodness we don't have to hear his big fresh bigoted mouth on the TV anymore.

3. This work is about using fame and notoriety for the RIGHT reasons.
As much as he deserved backlash, he also gets nods recognizing that good can come from tragic mistakes in one's past as when he originally started his foundation work.

I think what happened the past week will be a turning point for American media in many ways.

it may get lost down the memory hole..as will the Iraq foundation donations........would anyone keep on doing this if they have no voice to now advertise for such..CBS could have let him go yesterday...but they wanted this fund raiser to go on.........Just who is using who?

11. Has anyone checked to see what amount goes to the kids and what is for "overhead" of Ranch?
I like to check out the charities I give to...because one can't be sure if the expenses the charity gives are a small percentage of what's given to the cause.

It's always surprising that some of the most popular charities often have high "overhead" and so very little ends up used for the cause.

I used to have a site that verified charities...but lost it somewhere in my Bookmarks.

I'd really wonder how much money goes where in the Imus Charities.
