the Democrats would lose the South. The Blue Dogs existed before the voting rights act and became stronger in their convictions afterward. The Blue Dog Dem's are more like Republicans.

Some blue dogs, especially those from the deep south, tend to have a poor record on racial equality issues. Gene Taylor, who got a rating of around 56% from the NAACP in 2006, is an example. Other blue dogs from outside the south, such as Joe baca, have much better records on racial equality issues (Baca got a 91% from the NAACP in 2006). And even in the south, there are blue dogs with relatively good (compared to most repubs) records on racial equality. Mike Ross and Marion Berry of Arkansas both scored in the 80s from the NAACP.
