Memo to the White House: You HAVE to "Go It Alone" With Only Democrats Regardless of What You Do.
Edited on Wed Aug-19-09 03:35 PM by David Zephyr
REALITY CHECK TIME:

Today we are hearing from the White House that they are considering "going it alone with just the Democrats" to pass universal health care. Duh...Double Duh...

'Considering' going it alone? Hello....you NEVER had any other option anyway. Just deal with it.

For pete's sake, wake up and smell the coffee! Snap out of the "bi-partisan" delusion. The GOP only wants to destroy Obama's presidency and are playing the White House for fools.

NEVER MEANS NEVER:

There will not be a single Republican that will ever vote for ANY bill (with or without government option) that comes out of the Senate or the House in either their separate versions or in the final committee version. The same Republican Party that opposed Medicare and Social Security and the Civil Rights Act will again willfully oppose this bold move to provide health care to all American citizens.

The GOP, even after the White House "mis-speaking" on Sunday about eliminating the public option, quickly confirmed that even that shitty compromise would not move them to vote for a bill. What on earth more do you need to know?

They just aren't that much into you, Barack. Face it. They are not your friends. We are your friends! Remember us? Your base?

There is no way that Obama will get ANY Republican to vote for ANY bill, regardless of how watered down he makes it. The only way he will get a universal health care bill passed with be with ONLY the Democrats voting for it. That's the reality.

No matter how he slices it, any bill will come to his desk with only the support of the Democrats.

So, if you know there is not going to be any GOP support anyway, it's time to rally your base and push the bill through the ONLY way any bill will ever pass --- with only your Democrats.

THE AUGUST RECESS PUNT WAS A DISASTER:

Nothing has changed in all these four months now with regards to this circuitous discussion. The GOP is more interested in politics, breaking Obama than they are in any serious negotiations. Nothing has changed, every Republican will vote against any bill the White House pushes because it will be signed by Barack Obama.

OK, I admit it: I'm wrong. One thing HAS changed since the August Recess: Public opinion is turning against Obama and his attempt to bring universal healthcare because the GOP got the added time to confuse the American people. The boat is taking on water. Move it to the shore now before it sinks!

The debate is over. (It should have been over before the August break which only made matters worse).Obama is exactly where he was before the August recess. Obama will only be able to sign a bill with only Democratic votes. Deal with reality and move the ball forward.

CHANNEL LBJ AND TWIST SOME FRIGGIN' ARMS:

Lyndon Johnson would have never allowed this appearance of weakness, and by God, he got the Civil Rights Act and Medicare through Congress. He played hardball. Thank goodness the Unions are now beginning to threaten to use some of their muscle in 2010 against some of our pathetic, wavering Democrats. It's down to our Party to do the right thing for the American people.

GET THIS GODDAMNED THING DONE!

1. We've known this since for ever.
Republicans will never ever support anything from our side. We need to be more like Barney Frank....fearless and mouthy.

5. Exactly. The only thing that has changed is the public is now confused.
The longer we delay, the worse it gets.

Desperately want, his Corporate masters will not be pleased.

Seventy six per cent wants Universal Single Payer Health Care.

How hard can that statistic be to explain to the other side!

9. We're lowly serfs to the other side.
Expendable. Send us to fight their wars and kill us with lack of health care.

13. Yes.
Obama is showing himself to be very green.

The GOP and the DC crowd ate poor Jimmy Carter alive during his four years.

Politics means that can not have everyone like you.

August was a disaster.

3. I can only hope that these 'bipartisan' signals they're sending out
are just part of a concerted strategy to make themselves look better than republicans and that they're wise to the fact that they never had a chance in hell of getting any one of those fuckers to work with them.

It really is time to lose the dead weight and push ahead. Just as you say.

10. August was a trainwreck, BurtWorm
I wish I had the grace to say it was part of a strategy, but August proved it was a blunder.

Max Baucus suckered Obama and then betrayed him.

4. Hell... that was obvious six months ago!
I was wondering why the hell they were even looking down that road of bipartisanship! You can't be bipartisan with a group of people whose only mindset is to disagree on the basis that they are repubs. Their only interest is to say no, and hope that something the Democrats pass will fall apart. They have no interest in the people AT ALL!

6. The Republicans are stalling. The longer they wait. The less likely
we will have that 60th vote: Ted Kennedy. What a bunch of cynical monsters we have in Congress.
