"Medicalocity", because health care is just like shopping for a hotel room
Edited on Sat Aug-15-09 10:28 AM by SoCalDem
Congresswoman Marsha Blackburn thinks that Newt's idea for this is what we really need..

Travelocity works great, she said, because people can shop online to get the best deal..

Shame on us, if we think this "online-marketplace" will end up being the solution.

Health care is NOT a hotel room you book for a few nights.

1. Especially when the only thing you can afford is to sleep in your car.
or in a doorway.

2. What They Really Want Is To Free Healthcare Cos. From State Regulations
With this internet option, Healthcare cos. can relocate to 'regulation friendly' states and sell their products online.

This is fraught with scams. What's to stop these fly-by-night healthcare cos. from stealing your premiums? What's to stop them from collecting premimums from you and then declaring bankruptcy when you need the service? Right now, your state insurance regulators ensure that healthcare cos. have the funds to cover your claims.

However, in these 'regulation friendly' states, there goes that protection.

4. That's why so many credit card companies re-located to "friendly" states
where they could rule the roost. and why so many corporate HQs moved offshore..

:grr:

maybe doctors should just put their services on ebay and let us all bid for them:eyes:

5. Yep. It's Same Scam
But this time, when you need your insurance company to pay for your kid's surgery, they can claim BK and leave you high and dry.

9. That is what we really need to fight
Many of us fought for years to get mental health coverage, reproductive coverage, etc. The worst thing we could do is have no public option and give up state insurance regulations.

6. Boy, it would really suck if you lost your Internet connection right in the middle of
a heart attack.

What next? Online bidding for an appendectomy?

These folks need to buy a clue. The free market is not the cure for everything under the sun, and most especially for health care.

8. The Insurance Gateways will have an online component
So they're really saying they support the Democrats plans anyway.

We went online to cost compare for our car insurance. My medical test results are all online. If I can check some requirements for my health care needs and have a database pick out ten plans, I'd start there.
