I grew up poor, as in "we don't have enough money for food" poor exacerbated by a drunk, abusive drug-addled step father who couldn't keep a job. Did you know you can trade food stamps for booze?

But I never turned to drugs, crime or blaming my situation on anybody but my family. I kept my nose down, graduated high school, got the hell out and worked hard ever since.

Sorry, nobody ever gave me a free ride or special privilege to where I am now in the middle class. And I did it with affirmative-action college admissions and "equal opportunity" employment working against me. Companies, especially those looking for government contracts, need to show "diversity" if they want the job.

You want to talk "privilege," talk to my boss's boss. He was raised upper-middle class, free ride to a good college, white collar all the way.

Now as someone who ran the 440 in high school this explanation hit home. Typically the 440 is one full lap around the track at a full out sprint. Imagine running with a pack of people all doing their best. As you hit the last curve heading to the home stretch, you're winded, your lungs are burning, your legs feel like lead but you're determined to finish strong. In a fair race everyone experiences the same conditions at that turn. In our culture if you're a white male the wind is behind you, helping push you to the finish. Everyone else makes that turn and has the wind hit them hard in the face pushing against them, impeding their efforts to finish strong.

That's what all us white guys get in this society. Not a "check", not a "free ride", not a "white bonus", just an extra push towards the finish while everybody gets a bit of an impedance. Sorry if that's a problem for you to wrap your mind around.

You didn't get mad when Ronnie took away Medicare for stay at home mothers.

You didn't get mad when they took away the right to equal time for opposing views on Television.

You didn't get mad when one of Bush's other relatives worked in the media and incorrectly reported the Republican's as being ahead in the polls, to influence people only wanting to vote for the winner.

You didn't get mad when the Republican's in power lost two space shuttles, overlooking by overlooking serious problems.

You didn't get mad when they wouldn't admit Marijuana is a well advertised Spanish word that was put in the legal system to persecute illegal aliens fighting to get into this country, and tried to make them all learn English which even after we get 12 years of in High School, the University system thinks we still need more of.

You didn't get mad when they started a war against people trying to care for themselves and created pharmaceutical slavery, with a constant bombardment of drug ads while taking over the food supply and manipulating the chemicals in your body like a science experiment.

You didn't get mad when they replaced people at the EPA interested in preserving the environment including us with people interested in preserving the environment by starting more wars to eliminate more of us.

You didn't get mad when they replaced Mr. Diesel's hemp seed engine fuel with stinking dinosaur slime and encourage us to all get anointed with it.

You didn't get mad when they cut down our trees and told us that the paper Jefferson made himself and wrote the original draft of the Constitution on should be illegal.

Now that they've found that a lack of what Jefferson wrote the first draft of the Constitution on causes Alzheimer's disease, maybe you'll understand why we're all too confused to get mad.

What about a non-profit insurance agency whose focus is on maximizing benefits and not profits. Anything the government does will be a disaster. Which government program has succeeded?

We do not live in a democracy, we live in a republic which claims to be a democracy. If we were a democracy, we the people would vote in a health care bill, and we would vote line by line, not as a package deal.

The government is evil, and proves this time and time again by (taking what is not given) increasing taxes, global terrorism, and the largest incarceration rate in the world. Expecting the government to do something good is like expecting the Pope to become jewish.

Totally agree with all these statements. I awoke to the corruption and scandal in our political system during the Bush administration and have been fighting for peace ever since. I work with a media organization now and am investigating the current war. I made a three part segment composed of 6-10 minute installations breaking down who REALLY shapes our foreign policy, the true costs of the war thus far, and Obama's take on the war.
