Block Watch Groups Go High Tech
COLUMBUS, Ohio — Block watch groups have gone high tech to reduce crime in their neighborhoods.
Some groups in Columbus monitor cameras and use Twitter to alert homeowners about dangers, 10TV's Kevin Landers reported.
The Old Oaks neighborhood on the east side has one of several block watch groups that use both e-mail and Twitter to alert homeowners about dangers in their neighborhood. The technology has been so effective, block watch members said criminals are learning if they come into the neighborhood, someone will be watching and warning others.
Members of the block watch keep a crime log, and use Twitter to send crime alerts to neighbors and police. Residents told 10TV News that the plan is working.
