Can you spare a moment for a happy thought?

I paddled the kayak out to the middle of the lake last night, about 1:30 a.m., and laid back to watch the meteor showers. No wind, the lake was like glass, the moon was 3/4 full. The only sound was that of the occasional fish snatching a bug off the surface. I reclined the seat, floating, staring up at the sky for nearly an hour. Freakin' awesome. I saw half a dozen bright ones, several smaller meteors, but not as spectacular a show as I had hoped for (I was out a bit too early)...but I was by myself in a kayak in the middle of a lake at 1:30 in the morning. Mmmmmm.

Now, back to our regularly scheduled cantankerous political debates...

4. Shit, I forgot about the showers.

No lake here but I'm in the boonies and there's very little ambient light. I go on the roof with a sleeping bag when I remember.

7. That's right...it's the time of year for the Leonid showers, isn't it...

at least, I think those are the ones...too lazy to check my Farmer's Almanac...
