Palin Urges Supporters to Be Civil
After pouring gasoline on the fire a few days ago, Sarah Palin is calling for civility in the health care reform debate.
Palin claimed on her Facebook page late Friday that President Obama wants to create "death panels" to decide who is worthy of medical care. Newt Gingrich backed her up, warning that "communal standards" are dangerous. Howard Dean rejected the notion that Obama's plan would lead to euthanasia. "She just made that up," the former Democratic chairman said of Palin -- who told the media in her farewell speech to "quit making things up."
Sunday night, Palin was back on Facebook counseling against tactics that could be seen as "intimidation or harassment," which she said "diminish our nation's civil discourse."
"Drowning out opposing views is simply un-American," two top Democrats charge in a USA Today op-ed blasting reform opponents who disrupt town hall meeting. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer say people "must be allowed to learn the facts."
