Health Care Forum Jackboot Squad strikes again tonight.....in Michigan
from the Detroit Free Press:

Dingell forum on health care reforms gets raucous
By PATRICIA ANSTETT AND KATHLEEN GRAY • FREE PRESS STAFF WRITERS • August 6, 2009

U.S. Rep. John Dingell was greeted with jeers and cheers today as he tried to explain why changing the nation’s health care system — as he has advocated for more than a half-century in Congress — makes sense.

Dingell, 81, told a health care forum he sponsored in Romulus that the legislation won’t pay for abortions, as some protesters said it would.

“There will be no payment of taxpayer funds for abortion,” he said.

As Dingell tried to begin the forum, Mike Sola, of Milan, interrupted the congressman repeatedly as he pushed his son, Scott, in a wheelchair, to the podium. He said proposed changes wouldn’t help Scott and called Dingell a fraud. .........(more)

2. Exactly.
If they cannot conduct themselves in a civil manner, even if they strongly disagree with healthcare reform, then they should be escorted out. Not arrested, just taken out of the room.

If, however, they do get violent, yeah, arrest them, but I think just escorting them out might do the trick.

6. My home state of Michigan, too. These Brownshirts cannot go unchallenged.
Their violence is something we cannot let stand. This is extraordinary. People will be hurt or killed. I can't remember anything like this since the Civil Rights years.

8. I particularly resent their use of someone with a disability as a human prop
Mike Sola, of Milan, interrupted the congressman repeatedly as he pushed his son, Scott, in a wheelchair, to the podium.

One wonders if Scott has speech. If he does, why the hell wouldn't he go up there and speak his own mind? I went to a town hall with Neil Abercrombie (D-HI01) last month (minus the RW histrionics) and a woman who uses a wheelchair was in line to do just that (they cut her off because they had to leave the auditorium).

9. We need the freakin' cavalry..come
on Team Obama..this is getting very frustrating!

My Rep, Michael Arcuri, left a message today that he's calling back at 1pm tomorrow and having a conference call on Health INsurance Reform.

Could that be his answer to the thugs? I'll have to ask him.

21. Just talked to an OFA organizer tonight - she said they don't want to 'confront' the disruptors
I told her about the Daily Kos entry about how to handle them and suggestions from this site, then followed up with an email. She didn't even know about the "Town Hall Action Memo" the disruptors are using for a guide, so I sent her that. I hope the violence that is happening will make OFA realize they can't just sit back and be 'non-confrontational.'

"Tea Baggers FAIL to disrupt Health Care meeting, lessons shared."

by Don Briggs

Share this on Twitter - Tea Baggers FAIL to disrupt Health Care meeting, lessons shared. Mon Aug 03, 2009 at 10:50:13 PM PDT

The Democratic Alliance of Northwest Indiana (DANI ) hosted a meeting with Rep. Pete Visclosky (D, IN-01), on Monday, Aug. 3, 6:30 PM. We invited the public and their written questions. It seems good to share with the Daily Kos readership some lessons we learned.

Bottom line:
• We had an orderly and productive meeting.
• No one stood up, shouted out and sat down.
• At no point was our Congressman or audience rattled.
• DANI accomplished its objective. We provided the public an opportunity to question our Congressman about Health Care and Clean Energy.
• Tea Baggers came out in force, but they failed to disrupt the meeting.
• Local reporters attended.

"Lessons learned follow below the fold."

24. I hadn't seen the Rude Pundit one but yes, I sent the rest
Looking over the Rude Pundit - I'll forward it on.

My worry is that the OFA seems totally unprepared to do anything to counter these lobbyist funded disruptors. I think we need to push OFA to do more. Maybe send off more of this information to our local groups?

15. That's pathetic. Dingell has represented Michigan well for a long time.
I have memories of him even as a kid, shaking hands in our local 4th of July parade.

Same on these people. Dingell deserves more respect from Michiganders. I have a hard time believing these people were raised to behave like this.

they are trying to shut down all discussion of healthcare insurance reform. there are alot of people who do want to learn and know about the healthcare issue. These people who turn these town halls in mob rule must be escorted out.

22. The disrupters are proto-fascists in action.
If the disrupters were "liberals" trying to gain attention, they would be maced, tased, and arrested for their antics. Why are these disrupters on the right allowed to get away with it.

The congressperson should warn the crowd that disrupters will be asked to leave. The police should be on hand to remove rowdies. If someone continues with disruptive behavior after being warned, they should be ticketed and fined for disorderly conduct.

If a congress person can't maintain order in a town meeting, the right wing will label them as weak and unfit to govern. These disruptions have been allowed to occur already for too great an extent. They are a distraction from bringing about real health care reform, and it seems as though some Democrats are letting them go on, so that they can excuse themselves for NOT passing real reform measures.

Some Democrats seem to welcome the rowdies so that they can later vote against real reform measures using the excuse that they couldn't present a good case to their constituents, so that they got no support from the voters. With some 70 percent of the people saying that they want some kind of health care reform, that kind of excuse will not fly.
