What are the legitimate arguments against health insurance / health care reform?
And why has the GOP refrained from making such arguments apparent to the average American in the spirit of an honest policy debate?

3. There negatives that could be justified if all the good things aren't taken out.

One negative is individual mandate. Another is the proposed siphoning of funds from Medicare to help pay for this reform.

Edit: And the GOP hasn't participated in an honest policy debate because they're just being the GOP. It's always feelings and values with them, never issues and facts. Otherwise they would have to admit that the earth is not actually flat after all.

5. The only real argument is that big insurance won't fill their campaign coffers
if health care reform is allowed to pass. They don't dare tell their constituents that.

6. There's only one that I can think of
Theoretically, if a particular private health insurance company is eventually perceived as being very bad, the workers and even the management at the company can appeal to the highest levels of management to replace that company with a competitor who is not such an asshat.

If we have either single-payer or a public option that puts the private companies out of business, then we will be completely out of choices.

It's not logic I buy, but it is the essence of what my wingnut acquaintances tell me.

9. Like I said
it's not my logic. Well-off people can always afford their own security protection, anyways, they can buy a home with a fire sprinkler system, and afford security guards/systems to supplement public safety officers. I've pointed that out as well, that folks of means will be able to afford to go outside whatever "government" system they're afraid of, and they won't have to share a waiting room with the poor schlubs who can't afford anything.

10. Like the one that even Congress won't accept the public option?
or the one that a lot of people like the insurance they have and have no use for reform?

11. I honestly don't know

Some people have a philosophical disagreement with the concept of a government that is proactive in helping people find health care. But they are a small minority of the public, and shouldn't be allowed to control the debate.

The real reason they are opposed to it is because it will costs businesses hundreds of billions in revenue, and because if healthcare reform works it will debunk the GOP philosophy that government can't do anything right to help middle class people. Of course that doesn't make a good soundbite. "They want to kill your grandpa" works better for that kind of thing.
