Hillary Clinton: "When you're attacked, you have to deck your opponents,"
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/01/27/AR2007012700802.html

Clinton acknowledged that the campaign ahead might become brutal, particularly if she is picked as the Democratic nominee. She noted that she had overcome doubters who had predicted that she could not win a Senate seat in New York. And in response to a question about the lessons she has learned from Massachusetts Sen. John F. Kerry's loss to President Bush in 2004, Clinton promised to respond aggressively when attacked.

"When you're attacked, you have to deck your opponents," she said, after a more tepid initial response. She added: "I want to run a positive, issue-oriented, visionary campaign. But you can count on me to stand my ground and fight back."

8. Bullseye. And afraid to acknowledge her mistake. And...
afraid to oppose Defense of Marriage Act. And afraid to antagonize RW media ghoul Rupert Murdoch by refusing to repudiate his support his support in senate campaign. And afraid to debate her DEM senatorial primary opponent in 2006. And afraid to oppose the death penalty.

And, and, and.

can't believe anyone who talks all tough but acts like a wimp when it matters. And that's how I feel about her. We couldn't count on her to do the right thing, because she hasn't done it in the instances where she had the chance to do the right thing.

Has she introduced articles of impeachment yet? Was she at the rally yesterday? (She wasn't, but I was.) Kucinich was there, Maxine Waters was there, where was she? She had the opportunity to do the right thing as a Congressperson yesterday, and she did not.

3. Always knew that about her...
Saw it when she said she wasn't a typical stay-at-home-cookie-baking-stand-by-your-man woman. She's strong, intelligent and a fighter. Go Hillary!

7. From my perspective, she hasn't always had to
"play" the victim.

There really is a vast right wing conspiracy and they were and are out to get her and her husband.

Or do you doubt that there is a right wing conspiracy?

6. I just saw a documentary about Hillary last week on MSNBC and when she was little
and new to the neighborhood, she was picked on because she was the new kid on the block. Her mom said one day Hillary walked into the house crying because some kids had pushed her down. Her mom told her that the next time someone tried to pick on her she MUST defend herself, so she did. She decked a kid and never had a problem being bullied after that. I think that lesson from her mother has carried her far...looks like she's putting it to use again. :)

9. I remember reading in a book about her
That when President Clinton was Governor of Arkansas, and people would make untruthful allegations against him, he never wanted to respond. He believed that to respond would be lending credence to whatever accusation was out there.

And Hillary Clinton taught him that you have to respond. She told him that many people would assume that if you didn't respond, then the allegations against you must be true.

I think that's exactlty what she was saying in this interview, and I think she's absolutely correct.

John Kerry should not have waited to respond to those swift boaters. He should have been on the case from day 1 of that mess.

11. ABSOLUTELY! Kerry should have taken the Swift boaters on and
show the world what liars they were/are. Had he done that, things would be so different today. He should have SUED them. He has the $$$$$ to take them on. He should have.

Hillary is definitely doing the right thing. Nip it in the bud before snowballs into an unstoppable story.

15. Hillary used the money from her "It Takes a Village" book to fund children's hospitals.
And that can be proved. What you claim to have read doesn't hold any weight without proof.

I am sorry if it wasnt funny-but it was a J.O.K.E nonetheless.

all these Hillary obsessives talk about what they "heard and read"
and most of it is crap.

I am not for her in the primaries; but Ill vote for her if she is our nominee.

14. Ummm... just who thought she couldn't win a Senate race in New York?
It's a freaking safe seat for Dems, which is why Guilliani and Pataki refused to run against her in 2000. Her Republican opponents have been total jokes in both elections. (Her "biggest" primary opponent in 2006 didn't have a prayer because he had zero money and couldn't get the media to cover him.)

Sorry, this kind of b.s. spin really makes me crazy, no matter who uses it...

covering as neck in neck - on the best behavior. Hillary was being attacked from right and left - so it was a surprise in 2000. Giuliani dropped from the race for health problems (real). She ran a good race. In 2006, it's true, it was a done deal - with Tasini deliberately ignored by all.

18. I think Hillary took over Daniel Patrick Moynahan's seat
He was certainly not a republican.

I don't think anyone should have been too surprised she won the seat. It was clear she chose the seat because it would be a likely democratic win. Although it's interesting to note the margin of victory over Lazio was much less than Gore's margin over Bush in the state.

Granted, she faced an incredibly weak candidate in Lazio. Maybe Giuliani would have made it closer, but she still would have won by a decent margin.

21. New York had recently
elected Al d'Amato to the Senate repeatedly, elected George Pataki to the governorship, repeatedly.

It was not a safe Democratic seat, and in fact, the polls showed a statistical tie from the summer right up until the election. Giulani backed out because he had cancer, but Lazio put in a decent showing until the debate, when he appeared to accost her, which blew it for him.

But there was no guarantee she'd win that seat.
