Disney Announces Ticket Price Hike
Single-Day Ticket For Adults Increases To $79

POSTED: Friday, July 31, 2009
UPDATED: 7:58 pm EDT July 31, 2009
ORLANDO, Fla. -- One day after announcing a decline in revenues, Disney has announced a ticket price increase.

One-day one park adult tickets will go up $4 to $79 and children's ticket prices will go up $5 to $68.

The increase will go into effect on Sunday.

Disney is also raising the prices for multi-day ticket packages and "Park Hopper" passes.

The park is offering discounts for Florida residents.

Disney last raised prices in 2008. Park officials said its research shows guests still think the theme parks are a good value.

2. 2 parents, 3 kids age 6, 10 and 12, $380/day just for admission.
To see some snotty college student sweating away in the costume of a poorly conceived cartoon character from some stupid movies that were (or weren't) popular long ago?

Good value, my ass.

How about that same $380 getting a large tent, 5 sleeping bags, a portable stove and lantern, and a week's tent at a national park.

3. I guess it's all in how you view it
We just returned from a 10 day trip to Disney World. Granted, we had the advantage a big military special going on right now for active duty and retired military, but I can assure you that it isn't $380/day for admission if you go for more than one day.

I personally don't have any desire to spend a week in a tent at a national park, so that wouldn't be any kind of value for me.

4. I agree, Disney sucks. Its dirty, old, and overpriced. I'd rather go to Sea World or Universal.

6. I don't know when the last time you've been to Disney was, but one thing you can say about it is, it
Edited on Sat Aug-01-09 11:17 AM by SemiCharmedQuark
is NOT dirty. They have someone come out to sweep every six seconds it seems like. This is Disney World, not Disneyland. That might be different.

We went this spring and it was ridiculously clean. We went to Universal too and both were about the same price.

7. I was just about to say the same thing
It wasn't dirty at all when we were there. Clean, updated, etc. We had a great time, and it was well worth every penny we spent.

16. Well...I went in May and it was spotless.
And I've been a few times and it has always been extremely clean. Even people that I've gone with that hate Disney World have to admit that.

Different experiences I suppose!

21. I have usually seen Universal running tremendous deals
June 2008 I bought a five day pass (used four days of it) for only slightly more than a single day at Disney. Disney never seems to run the same deals. While Disney has things no other themepark has, when you do the entertainment/price ratio Universal Studio wins hands down.

Suggestion is to shop around a lot before going. I have the advantage of family in Florida so I can cherry pick opportunities. It is different when you go down for a vacation.

Since June 2008 the wallet is closed though. Don't plan to go back quite a while. I would prefer to hang out at the beach which is just a short walk from mom's house. Its free.

10. Yep.. Loved Universal, hated Disney World
Epcot was okay I guess.

But that was about 20 years ago, so things might have changed.

9. Now If I Ran Disney I Would Do Just The Opposite I Would Lower The......
price of admission to draw more people to come. I think there are a lot of people sitting on the fence wanting a break from this crazy world we live in - but when they hear prices are increasing - they just dig in and what do you get a "staycation".

Now if they lowered the price and made it seem that people were getting a good deal - I think it would bring people out of the woodwork - and that money that they saved - they'd be more apt to spend while there.

If I were considering a trip to Disney - this announcement would put an end to that.

Seems like we always do the opposite in these times of economic crisis and we make the situation worse.

We don't pay people a decent wage. We jettison jobs versus hiring or maintaining. We cut social programs. We just make people feel worse in such a situation and we just dig in.

Now if people made a decent wage. If they felt their job was safe. If they didn't have to worry about going bankrupt if they had an illness - they would feel better about themselves - they would spend some of their dollars - they would go out to eat - and this would turn the tide and right the economic crisis.

I agree with Bill Maher - this is a stupid country.

12. I would lower the admission too
They make more money on the concessions than the admission.

Increasing the price of admission will dramatically decrease traffic and the concessions.

A really dumb business move.

13. I agree. And it would be great P.R. But like everything else
in the U.S.A., it's profit above else. Above integrity. Above charity. Above patriotism.

17. Oh for God's sake
Disney is a business, not a charity or a governmental organization. Of course to them it's about profit. They should give vacations away?

15. They do in the fall when its dead season.. As of now there are a lot of
overseas travelers who come to vacation in Orlando and do disney... If you have Euro exchange, the price isn't that bad.. and you would do it regardless of the price. Most Americans use the spring for breaks for vacations to FL because in the summer it is unmerciful..

19. Disney is a bad neighbor...
..they suck money out of Orlando and put nothing back into the economy. All the money goes to the Big Corp in New York or wherever.

They supply minimum wage jobs at best and the traffic they create causes gridlock and a drain on services. (although they do have their own Police and Fire Dept)

If they keep raising prices in this economy, the only sound you will hear in their park will be "Jiminy Crickets".

providing thousands of jobs would be considered "sucking" money out of Orlando.

Sure the kid selling you a 4 dollar bottle of water is probably making minimum or near it. But Disney runs on Techs and performers and they make a hell of a lot more than minimum. And the comment about taking money out of Orlando, well that town would still be a swamp if it weren't for Disney.

Not that I'm some kind of huge fan, but facts are facts.

27. 70,000 jobs to be exact
I worked at Epcot in 2007, very clean and outstanding guest services. Disney bends over back-wards for their guests, you wouldn't imagine the requests that come across my desk that Disney fulfilled. I was lucky that I was a salary employee and got free admission in the parks for my family 12 times a year.

25. Then people need to stop going.
Whether it be out of high prices or some make-believed claim of "doing something", it'll still happen. It just hasn't happened yet.

24. Some people will think it's worth it
and some won't. Disney has very talented people making decisions and felt that this was the best interest of the company. I personally don't feel like it is worth it, but I'm not their customer demographic.
