1,000 Afghan Civilians Killed in Deadliest 6(Obama's) Months: UN
Edited on Sat Aug-01-09 07:42 AM by tekisui
Source: ABC News(Australia)

The United Nations says more than 1,000 civilians have been killed in the conflict in Afghanistan in the first six months of this year, making the death toll 24 per cent higher than the same period last year.

This has been the deadliest six months for civilians in Afghanistan, since the US led invasion.

The report says insurgents were responsible for most of the deaths but 41 per cent were attributed to government and Coalition forces.

The UN says increased insurgent bombings, and air strikes by international forces are the biggest killers.

Violence has escalated after a surge in foreign troops, especially in the south of the country.

Deadliest six months for civilians in Afghanistan after President Obama's surge/escalation was implemented. We use to be outraged by the senseless killing of Iraqi civilians. What makes Afghan civilian killings less outrageous?

1. Somehow this is perceived as the 'good' war by many. I am
not convinced of that.

4. That is a cop out. Obama escalated. It is worse for civilians
and US/NATO troops since he took office.

5. You are right. The bush years in Afghanistan was just the prequel.
Obama and us Democrats own what will be the real war there.

Obama may well be the worst thing to happen to the peace movement.

7. He stopped the peace movement in its tracks.

The peace movement joined his campaign on his words on Iraq. The momentum ended after his election and too many got complacent and went back to ignoring our wars. Too many thought we won.

8. I see "No war" stickers next to Obama stickers all the time
I find that extremely sad.

I think we really do need another mass demonstration for peace.

10. More civilian dead. More military dead.
Maybe they're not as dead if a guy we like is the president.
