Apros Pos of Nothing ........ what's your favorite beer?
Mine is (California brewed) Od Rasputin Russian Imperial Stout. You need to chew this stuff. I do maybe 4 or 6 bottles a month. I drink it only with meals. Apart from that, I'm not much of a beer drinker.

69. That's a good one, too -
we used to mock all things Yuengling because it was local and cheap and, well, because kids mock all things local as they're growing up.

We drank Rolling Rock whenever we could get someone to buy for us, and, as I recall - it's been a while - that was a pretty good brew, too.

But Yuengling has become a national sensation, and the first time I saw Black and Tan in a gourmet food store in San Francisco, I nearly died laughing.

The water in that part of the country is extraordinary. It's sweet. People used to come up from Philadelphia - about 2 hours south of us - with gallon containers, to get the water from roadside streams, such was its reputation.

And it makes what I think is the best beer in this country.

Try them all. The lager is my favorite, but they're all really good!!!

60. I just finished off a twelve-pack of Pilsner Urquell
I love the stuff but... is it just me or has it changed over the last 20 years? It used to have a sweet hops feel and a looonnnggg dry finish. The dryness seems to have gone away. It's still quite delicious don't get me wrong it's just not what I remember from back in the day.

34. Chimay Belgian Trappist Ale
Supposedly brewed by monks in Belgium, the "trippel" style is about 9% alcohol.

It comes in 750 ml bottles and runs about 8 bucks a bottle so I don't drink it very often. But it will definitely kick your ass.

For everyday beer drinking - anything from Boston Beer Co. (Sam Adams). I'm a shareholder and they are big supporters of the Democratic agenda.

35. Depends on where I am
At home it's Anchor Steam's Bock, only available a couple of months out of the year but so damn good.

Across the pond it would have to be the Zywiec Porter, a super delicious dark malty beer from Poland. They make a fine lager too but the porter is special.

39. I believe I am the reigning authority on this matter.
Edited on Thu Jul-30-09 10:58 PM by sofa king
My qualifications are this: For twenty years, I drank between six and twelve beers, every day. Once I drank them all, I quit, so I can soberly assess the quality of the hundreds of different beers I drank.

The best beers I ever had were, in this order:

Wild Goose Spring Wheat Ale. The first couple of years of it, when they had crummy labels that peeled off as soon as the beer came out of the fridge. The best beer I ever had, hands down.

Red Feather Pale Ale. From a short-lived microbrewery in Pennsylvania. Magical, with qualities that reminded me both of porters and ales, but better than both. And like magic, it disappeared.

Sam Middleton's Pale Ale. Also from the Wild Goose Brewery, easier to find than the Spring Wheat, might have been made with a fruity Belgian malt. By the mid-1990s, though, it was a pale shadow of its former self.

Long Trail Ale. Oh, my! Finding a bar next to Killington that served five dollar pitchers of this stuff was like finding the Lost Ark. Beautiful to behold with its copper-red color, hoppier than Sierra Nevada, and a fresh taste no matter where you find it. I think this stuff is still around, which might make it the best beer still around.

I continued to drink beer after the micro-brewery craze of the early 1990s, but frankly, they all suck now. Except for that Long Trail stuff, maybe.

There. Now you kids can stop arguing.
